Jason of Shady Characters Named Pabst Blue Ribbon Wiffler of the Week

Jason tied the single-game record for home runs, becoming only the fifth player in league history to hit five homers in a game, and led Shady Characters to two wins en route to being voted Wiffler of the Week for week 4 of the 2023 season.

In a 12-8 win over Jack Shack, Jason went 5-for-6, homering in his first five at-bats to tie the EWL record, and he drove in seven runs.

In an 11-10 win over Cheap Goats, he went 4-for-5 with a single, a double, two homers, three runs scored, and four RBI.

In total, Jason went 9-for-11 with a single, a double, seven home runs, eight runs scored, and eleven RBI in week 4.

This is the fifth time Jason has been voted Wiffler of the Week in his wiffle career. He was voted Wiffler of the Week twice in the 2021 and 2022 seasons, and was last voted Wiffler of the Week for the final week of the 2022 regular season.

Jon Leads Jack Shack to Hard Fought 9-8 Win Over Guac Boys

Jon scored four of Jack Shack’s nine runs, homered in his first three at-bats, and pitched a complete game win in a back-and-forth 9-8 win over the Guac Boys

Jack Shack overcame huge games from Jan and Bohn as Jon went 4-for-5 with a double, three home runs, and five RBI to lead his team to a 9-8 win over the Guac Boys. Brian and Ryan also contributed three hits a piece as Jack Shack outlasted the Guac Boys in a game that was back-and-forth from start to finish.

Jon started on the mound for Jack Shack, and he allowed a leadoff single to the first batter he faced, Jan. Bohn followed with a two-run blast to right, and the Guac Boys immediately led 2-0. Two batters later, Kyle hit a one-out double, but Jon stranded him, retiring Jan to end the inning.

Jack Shack bounced back in the bottom of the first, taking the lead. Bohn started for the Guac Boys, and after allowing a leadoff single to Ryan, he struck out Josh for the first out of the inning. Jon followed with a two-run homer, tying the game at 2-2. Brian doubled, and Ryan drove him in with a two-run shot, putting Jack Shack ahead 4-2. Bohn then retired Josh for the second out of the inning, and Jack Shack led by two runs.

The Guac Boys punched back in the top of the second. Bohn led off the inning with his second homer of the game, a solo shot that cut the score to 4-3. Jude singled, and two batters later, Jan hit a one-out double to score him, tying the game at 4-4. Bohn followed with his third homer in as many at-bats, a two-run bomb that put Guac Boys ahead 6-4. Jon finally escaped the inning by striking out Jude for the second out, and Jack Shack once again trailed by two.

Jon led off the bottom of the second with a solo shot, providing his own run support and cutting the score to 6-5. Bohn retired Brian and Ryan to end the inning, and Guac Boys led by a run.

Jon allowed a one-out single to Jan in the top of the third, but he stranded him, retiring Bohn for the first time in the game, ending the inning.

Jack Shack continued to swing hot bats in the bottom of the third. Josh singled, and for the third consecutive at-bat, Jon went deep, hitting a two-run homer that put Jack Shack ahead 7-6. Brian followed with a triple, but Bohn struck out Ryan and Josh consecutively to end the inning, becoming only the sixth pitcher in league history to strike out the side.

Guac Boys responded yet again in the top of the fourth. Kyle hit a one-out single, and Jan followed with a two-run blast, giving Guac Boys an 8-7 lead. Bohn singled, but Jon stranded him, retiring Jude to end the inning.

The slugfest continued in the bottom of the fourth, and Jack Shack came back firing again. Jon led off the inning with a double, and he moved to third when Brian singled, putting runners on the corners with no outs. Ryan doubled, scoring Jon and tying the game at 8-8. Bohn got Josh to ground out to right for the first out of the inning, but Brian scored on the play, putting Jack Shack back in front 9-8. Bohn retired Jon to end the inning, and Guac Boys once again trailed by a run.

Jon allowed a one-out double to Jan in the top of the fifth, but he stranded him, retiring Bohn to end the inning, preserving the one-run lead.

Bohn rolled through the bottom of the fifth, retiring Brian and Ryan consecutively, and the Guac Boys would need a run in the top of the sixth to extend the game.

Jude led off the top of the sixth with a single, putting the tying run on base and the go-ahead run at the plate. Jon buckled down, however, retiring Kyle and Jan to strand Jude at first, ending the inning and the game and giving Jack Shack a 9-8 win.

The win moved Jack Shack to 3-5 on the season, and the loss dropped the Guac Boys to 3-5.

Christian Swats Career-High Four Home Runs to Power Cheap Goats Past Guac Boys 11-5

Cheap Goats celebrate as Christian, who led his squad to an 11-5 victory, rounds third after one of his career-high four home runs

It is possible that no player in league history has made a leap like Christian has in 2023, and his monster season continued in week 4 when he crushed four bombs, going 6-for-6 against the Guac Boys, leading Cheap Goats to an 11-5 victory. Joey went deep twice, and Dinger contributed three hits in addition to picking up the win on the mound as Cheap Goats improved to .500 on the season and pulled closer to Guac Boys in the EWL standings.

Kyle made his season debut for the Guac Boys and took the mound, retiring Joey and Miller in order in the top of the first.

Christian started for Cheap Goats, and he matched Kyle in the bottom of the first, retiring Jan and Bohn consecutively.

Christian provided his own run support in the top of the second, leading off the inning with a solo homer, making the score 1-0. Two batters later Joey hit a one-out single, and he scored when Miller followed with an RBI double, extending the Cheap Goats lead to 2-0. Christian followed with a single, but Miller was thrown out trying to score on the play, ending the inning.

Christian once again cruised in the bottom of the second, retiring Jude and Kyle, and the score remained 2-0.

Dinger led off the top of the third with a double, but Kyle stranded him, retiring Joey and Miller.

Dinger replaced Christian on the mound in the bottom of the third, and the Guac Boys got on the board, rallying to take the lead. Jan led off the inning with a solo shot to left-center, cutting the score to 2-1. Bohn singled, and two batters later, Kyle got his first hit of the 2023 season, a two-run bomb that put the Guac Boys in front 3-2. Jan followed with a triple, but Dinger stranded him, retiring Bohn to end the inning.

Christian once again helped his own cause in the top of the fourth, leading off the inning with his second homer of the game, a solo shot. Kyle retired Dinger and Joey to end the inning, and the game was tied at 3-3.

Cheap Goats exploded in the top of the fifth, opening up a big lead. Kyle retired Miller to start the inning, but Christian followed with a one-out double. Dinger hit an RBI triple, scoring Christian, and Cheap Goats led 4-3. Joey followed with a two-run bomb, extending the lead to 6-3. Miller tripled, and Christian followed with his third homer of the game, a two-run blast that put Cheap Goats in front 8-3. Dinger then singled, and he scored from first when Joey followed with an RBI single, making the score 9-3. Kyle retired Miller for the second out of the inning, stranding Joey, but Cheap Goats had scored six runs in the inning and had taken a commanding lead.

Dinger retired Bohn to start the inning, and Jude followed with a one-out single. Kyle hit his second two-run homer of the game, and Guac Boys trailed 9-5. Dinger then retired Jan to end the inning.

Cheap Goats made up the two runs in the top of the sixth. Christian led off the inning and crushed a titanic bomb to right field, his career-high fourth homer of the game, giving Cheap Goats a 10-5 lead. Two batters later, with one out, Joey hit his second homer of the game, a solo shot, and Cheap Goats led 11-5. Kyle retired Miller for the second out of the inning, and Guac Boys trailed by six heading into their final at-bat.

Dinger remained on the mound to close things out for Cheap Goats, and he made quick work in the bottom half of the inning. He retired Bohn and Jude in order, ending the inning and the game, and giving Cheap Goats an 11-5 victory.

The win moved Cheap Goats to 4-4 on the season, and the loss dropped the Guac Boys to 3-4.

Tom’s Walk-Off Homer Caps Shady Characters Dramatic 11-10 Comeback Win Over Cheap Goats

Tom and Jason had a pair of homers in the game, they both homered in the dramatic bottom of the sixth Shady Characters’ rally, and Tom’s two-run walk-off homer won the game

For the third consecutive week, Shady Characters and Cheap Goats went blow-for-blow until one of the teams pulled away in the final inning in thrilling fashion. Cheap Goats prevailed in the first two matchups, but Shady Characters overcame four Miller home runs and reversed the trend in week 5. Trailing 10-7 heading into the bottom of the sixth, Jason and Tom each hit two-run homers, with Tom’s homer serving as a walk-off, giving his squad a dramatic win and avenging the previous defeats. Both players registered four hits with a pair of two-run homers, and Shady Characters extended their grip on first place in the EWL standings.

Tom started on the mound, and the first batter he faced, Joey, hit a leadoff solo homer, putting Cheap Goats ahead 1-0. Tom retired the next two batters, Miller and Christian, to end the inning.

Shady Characters took the lead back immediately in the bottom of the first. Cheap Goats’ starter, Christian, retired Nate before allowing a one-out single to Tom. The next batter, Jason, hit a two-run bomb to right, putting Shady Characters in front 2-1. Tom then retired Head, rounding out a deficient Shady Characters lineup, to end the inning.

Cheap Goats swung back in the top of the second. Dinger led off the inning with a solo homer, tying the game at 2-2. Joey doubled, and Miller drove him in with a two-run blast, giving Cheap Goats a 4-2 lead. Tom retired Christian and Dinger to end the inning, and Cheap Goats led by two runs.

Head came to the mound from the bullpen in the top of the third, and he retired Joey to start the inning. Miller followed with his second homer of the game, and Cheap Goats led 5-4. Tom then retired Christian to end the inning.

Nate flew out to the mound for the first out in the bottom of the third, and Christian struck out Tom to end the inning.

Shady Characters made another pitching change in the top of the fourth, bringing Jason to the mound, and Cheap Goats extended their lead. Joey hit a one-out double, and Miller hit his third consecutive homer, a two-run shot, giving Cheap Goats a 7-4 lead. Tom then retired Christian to end the inning, and Shady Characters trailed by three runs.

Jason doubled to start the bottom of the fourth, and Head followed with a single, putting runners on the corners with no outs. Nate cleared the bases with a three-run homer to center, tying the score at 7-7. Christian then retired Tom and Jason to end the inning.

Miller then hit his fourth homer in as many at-bats, setting a single-game career high and extending the Cheap Goats lead to 10-7. Jason then retired Christian and Dinger to end the inning, and Cheap Goats once again led by three runs.

Head led off the bottom of the fifth with a single, but when Nate flew out to right for the first out, Shady Characters were once again doubled up by Cheap Goats, ending the inning.

Joey doubled to start the top of the sixth but when Miller flew out to right, Shady Characters pulled a double play of their own, catching Joey in between bases to end the inning.

Shady Characters had lost the previous two matchups with Cheap Goats in the final inning, and heading into the bottom of the sixth, they were down three runs. Christian remained in the game to close things out for Cheap Goats, and he gave up a single to Tom to start the inning. Jason followed with a two-run homer, his second of the game, cutting the deficit to 10-9. Christian then retired Head, and Cheap Goats were one out away from their third consecutive narrow win over Shady Characters. Down to their last out, Nate singled, putting the tying runner on base and the winning run at the plate. Tom came to the plate looking to continue his recent stretch of clutch performances, and he delivered. He launched a two-run homer to deep right-center, winning the game for Shady Characters 11-10.

The win moved Shady Characters to 6-2 on the season, and the loss dropped Cheap Goats to 3-4.

Jason homered in his first five at-bats against Jack Shack, tying the single-game record for home runs in a game and driving in seven runs as Shady Characters stormed past Jack Shack 12-8. He became the first player to hit five homers in a single game since 2018, and had a chance at a sixth homer in his final at-bat. Tom also went 4-for-6 with two homers and pitched the complete game win as Shady Characters went up by nine runs early and held off a late Jack Shack rally to remain in first place in the EWL standings.

Tom got off to a good start in the top of the first, retiring Ryan and Josh in order.

Josh took the mound for Jack Shack, and he fell behind early. Nate doubled to start the bottom of the first, and Tom followed with a two-run shot to right-center, giving Shady Characters a 2-0 lead. Jason followed with his first round-tripper of the game, and the back-to-back jacks put Shady Characters up 3-0. Pete Gzinya, filling in for a depleted Shady Characters roster, singled, but Josh stranded him, retiring Nate and Tom to end the inning.

Tom then retired Jon to end the inning, and Jack Shack had pulled even.

The record-tying blast made the score 10-3, and Jason joined Bob, Blose, Joey, and Ivan in the record book. Two batters later, Nate hit a solo homer, and Shady Characters led 11-3. Tom followed with his second homer of the game, and Shady Characters had taken a 12-3 lead. Jason came to the plate for his sixth at-bat of the game with a chance to set the single-game record for homers with six. Tom (Kimble) had his six in a playoff game, but no EWL player had ever hit six homers in a regular season game. The entire league looked on intently, but Jason flew out to the mound, ending the inning. He came up short on setting a new record, but his historic performance etched his name into the EWL record book.

Brian followed with a double, scoring Jon, cutting the deficit to 12-4. Ryan then hit a two-run shot, and Jack Shack had narrowed the Shady Characters lead to 12-6. Josh singled, and Jon followed with a double, putting runners on second and third with no outs. Brian doubled, scoring Josh, and the score was 12-7. Ryan then doubled, scoring Josh, and Jack Shack had cut the lead from 12-3 to 12-8 without recording an out. Just when it looked like Jack Shack may upset Jason’s historic day, Tom buckled down. He retired Josh and Jon to strand Ryan at second, ending the inning and the game, giving Shady Characters the 12-8 victory.

The win moved Shady Characters to 5-2 on the season, and the loss dropped Jack Shack to 2-5.
