Dustin of Jack Shack Named Pabst Blue Ribbon Wiffler of the Week

Although his team has sputtered in the standings, Dustin has had the best start to a season in his EWL career, and he was voted Pabst Blue Ribbon Wiffler of the Week for week 4 of the 2021 season.

During the offseason, Dustin handed over Captain status to his Jack Shack teammate Brian, and became a father, but if anything, his bat has improved, and it was on display in week 4.

In a win over Cheap Goats, Dustin went 3-for-5 with two doubles, a home run, three runs scored, three RBI, and he led Jack Shack on defense with six putouts.

In a narrow loss to Shady Characters, he went 4-for-4 with a single, a triple, two homers, two runs scored, and four RBI. He was also intentionally walked in his final at-bat.

In total, Dustin went 7-for-9 with six extra-base hits and seven RBI over two games in week 4.

This is the fifth time in Dustin’s career that he has been voted Wiffler of the Week.

Cheap Goats, Led by Joey and Miller, Roll Past Guacamol-yay 8-1

Joey and Miller combined to go 7-for-8, with Joey going 4-for-4 with four extra base hits and Miller going 3-for-4 with three RBI, and Christian pitched the complete game win allowing only a run, as Cheap Goats cruised past Guacamol-yay 8-1. Cheap Goats scored four in the top of the first, and it was all the run support that Christian would need, as he scattered five hits in six innings, and Cheap Goats remained one game behind Shady Characters for first place in the EWL standings.

Jude took them mound for Guacamol-yay, and he fell behind early. Brett led off the game with a triple, and Joey followed with a two-run inside-the-park home run, his first of the season, and Cheap Goats immediately led 2-0. Miller followed with a triple, and Jordan made it back-to-back triples, scoring Miller to make the score 3-0. Christian grounded out to center for the first out of the inning, but Jordan scored on the play, giving Cheap Goats a 4-0 lead. Dinger then singled, but Jude escaped the inning, retiring Brett for the second out.

Christian allowed a leadoff triple to Jan in the bottom of the first, but he stranded him, retiring Sean and Ryan, and the score remained 4-0.

Cheap Goats got their bats back out in the top of the second. Joey led off with a triple, and Miller drove him in with a two-run homer, putting Cheap Goats ahead 6-0. Jude then retired Jordan and Christian, ending the inning.

Christian rolled through the bottom of the second, retiring Alec and Jude in order.

Jude matched Christian in the top of the third, sending Dinger and Brett down consecutively.

Guacamol-yay got on the board in the bottom of the third. Sean tripled with one out, and Ryan drove him in with an RBI double, cutting the deficit to 6-1. Christian retired Alec for the second out of the inning, stranding Ryan at second.

Joey started the top of the fourth with a double, and two batters later, Jordan hit a one-out RBI single, scoring Joey to extend the Cheap Goats lead to 7-1. Jude then retired Christian to end the inning.

Christian retired the side in order in the bottom of the fourth, sending Jude and Jan down consecutively.

Jude once again matched Christian in the top of the fifth, retiring Dinger and Brett.

Sean led off the bottom of the fifth with a triple, but Guacamol-yay couldn’t capitalize. Christian retired Ryan and Alec, stranding the runner at third, and the score remained 7-1.

Cheap Goats got one more insurance run in the top of the sixth. Joey led off the inning with a double, and Miller drove him in with an RBI single, making the score 8-1. Jude retired Jordan and Christian, stranding Miller at first.

Down seven, Guacamol-yay couldn’t rally in the bottom of the sixth. Christian closed out the game by retiring Jan and Sean, giving Cheap Goats the 8-1 win.

The win moved Cheap Goats to 6-2 on the season, and the loss dropped Guacamol-yay to 0-8.

Shady Characters Squeeze Past Jack Shack 8-7 to Take Control of First Place

In one of the best games of the 2021 season, Shady Characters, led by Jason and Tom, narrowly defeated Jack Shack 8-7, assuming sole possession of first place in the EWL standings. Tom went 3-for-3 with a double, two homers, three runs scored, and two RBI, and Jason went 3-for-4 with two singles, a home run, a run scored, and four RBI, as Shady Characters came out of the back-and-forth game with a W.

Tom started on the mound, and Jack Shack got to him early. Brian led off the the game with a double, and two batters later, Dustin hit a two-run bomb, making the score 2-0. Tom then retired Adam to end the inning.

Shady Characters immediately got out their bats and took the lead back in the bottom of the first. Mike singled with one out, and he moved from first to third when Tom followed with a double. With one out and two runners in scoring position, Jason hit a three-run homer, putting Shady Characters in front 3-2. Dustin, Jack Shack’s starter, struck out Lucas for the second out of the inning.

Jack Shack bounced back in the top of the second. Josh D led off the a double, and he moved to third when Brian followed with a single, putting runners on the corners with no outs. Turbo grounded out for the first out of the inning, but Josh D scored on the play, tying the game at 3-3. Dustin then tripled, scoring Brian, and Jack Shack once again led 4-3. Tom retired Adam to end the inning, and Jack Shack was up by a run.

Shady Characters wasted no time reclaiming the lead in the bottom of the second. Dylan led off the inning with a solo homer, tying the game at 4-4. Two batters later, Tom hit a solo shot, and Shady Characters led 5-4. Jason followed with a single, but Dustin stranded him, retiring Lucas to end the inning.

Tom had met his innings limit for the week, and Shady Characters turned to Lucas from the bullpen in the top of the third. He retired Josh D, and after allowing a one-out triple to Brian, he stranded him at third, retiring Turbo to end the inning.

Shady Characters added to their lead in the bottom of the third. For the second consecutive inning, Dylan led off with a solo homer, making the score 6-4. Mike doubled, and he moved to third when Tom hit a sacrifice fly to right. Jason followed with an RBI single, scoring Mike, putting Shady Characters in front 7-4. Dustin then retired Lucas for the second out of the inning, and Shady Characters had taken a three-run lead.

Jack Shack chipped into the deficit in the top of the fourth. Dustin led off the inning with a solo homer, and Adam followed with a solo shot. The back-to-back jacks narrowed the score to 7-6. Lucas retired Josh D and Brian to escape the inning, maintaining Shady Characters’ one-run lead.

Dustin pitched his first perfect frame in the bottom of the fourth, sending Dylan and Mike down in order.

Turbo singled to start the top of the fifth, and he moved from first to third when Dustin followed with a single. Jack Shack were threatening, with no outs and two on, but Lucas buckled down. He retired Adam for the first out, and then struck out Josh D to end the inning, stranding the tying and go-ahead runners on base.

Shady Characters added one last insurance run in the bottom of the fifth when Tom led off the inning with his second solo homer of the game, making the score 8-6. Dustin retired Jason and Lucas to end the inning, and Jack Shack trailed by two runs heading into their final at-bat.

With the score 8-6, Brian led off the top of the sixth with a solo homer, which gave him his third career cycle, and the score was now 8-7. Lucas retired Turbo for the first out of the inning, and then Shady Characters intentionally walked Dustin, who was 4-for-4 to this point in the game, putting the typing runner on base. The gamble worked, as Lucas struck out Adam to strand Dustin at first, ending the game, and giving Shady Characters the 8-7 win.

The win moved Shady Characters to 7-1 on the season, and the loss dropped Jack Shack to 3-5.

Jack Shack Pull Away with Huge Seventh Inning to Beat Cheap Goats 9-5 in Extras

With the game tied at 3-3 after six innings, Cheap Goats and Jack Shack went to extra innings, where the scoring took off. Cheap Goats scored two in the bottom of the seventh, which couldn’t match Jack Shack’s six runs in the top of the seventh, as Jack Shack won 9-5. Dustin, Brian, and Adam each homered and had three hits to lead the way for the defending champs.

Dinger took the mound for Cheap Goats, and after allowing a leadoff single to Brian in the top of the first, he retired Turbo and Dustin to strand the runner at first, ending the inning.

Brian started for Jack Shack and he retired Brett and Joey consecutively in the bottom of the first.

Dinger rolled in the top of the second, sending Adam and Josh D down in order.

Miller tripled to lead off the bottom of the second, and when Jordan flew out to center for the first out of the inning, Miller attempted to tag from third and score. Dustin gunned him down from center, however, ending the inning, and the game was scoreless through two innings.

Jack Shack got on the board in the top of the third. Turbo doubled with one out, and Dustin drove him in with an RBI double, making the score 1-0. Adam then doubled, scoring Turbo, and Jack Shack led 2-0. Dinger then retired Josh D for the second out, stranding Adam at second and ending the inning.

Christian singled to start the bottom of the third, but for the second consecutive inning, Dustin gunned down a runner. He caught Christian attempting to extend the single into a double, for the first out of the inning. Brian then retired Dinger to end the inning.

Brian led off the top of the fourth with a solo homer, putting Jack Shack ahead 3-0. Dinger then retired Turbo and Dustin, and Jack Shack led by three runs.

Cheap Goats got on the board in the bottom of the fourth when Brett led off the inning with a solo shot to right-center, making the score 3-1. Joey then doubled, and he scored from second when Miller grounded out to left for the first out of the inning. Brian retired Jordan to end the inning, and Cheap Goats had cut the Jack Shack lead to 3-2.

With the game tied at 3-3, Jack Shack unleashed a barrage of runs in the top of the seventh. Dinger remained on the mound, and the first batter he faced, Dustin, doubled. Adam followed with a two-run homer, putting Jack Shack ahead 5-3. Josh D singled, and Brian doubled, putting runners on second and third with no outs. Dinger retired Turbo for the first out of the inning, but Josh D scored on the play, and Jack Shack led 6-3. Dustin then cleared the bases with a two-run bomb, putting Jack Shack in front 8-3. Adam followed with a double, and he scored when Josh D hit an RBI double, extending the Jack Shack lead to 9-3. Dinger retired Brian to finally escape the inning, but Jack Shack had scored six runs in the first extra-innings frame, pulling ahead 9-3.

Cheap Goats put up a fight in the bottom of the sixth. Brian struck out Christian to start the inning, but Dinger followed with a one-out single. Brett then hit his second blast of the game, a two-run homer that cut the score to 9-5. Joey doubled, but the rally would end there, as Brian retired Miller to strand the runner at second, ending the game and giving Jack Shack a 9-5 victory.

The win moved Jack Shack to 3-4 on the season, and Cheap Goats fell to 5-2.

Jason Goes 5-for-5 and Powers Shady Characters to 10-6 Win Over Guacamol-yay

Jason had the best game of his rookie season with Shady Characters, going 5-for-5 with a single, three doubles, and a two-run homer, leading his squad to a 10-6 win over Guacamol-yay. Dylan, Mike, and Tom also had three hits apiece, and Lucas hit a two-run homer, as Shady Characters continued their winning streak and surge toward the top of the EWL standings.

Jan took the mound for Guacamol-yay, and he fell behind early. Dylan led off the game with a triple, and Mike drove him in with an RBI double, making the score 1-0. Mike was caught trying to extend the hit into a triple for the first out in the inning. Tom then doubled, and Jason’s RBI single scored him, putting Shady Characters ahead 2-0. Jan then retired Lucas to strand Jason at first, ending the inning.

Shady Characters ace, Tom, took the mound in the bottom of the first, and he retired Jan and Alec in order.

Jan fared better in the top of the second, sending Dylan and Mike down consecutively, and the score remained 2-0.

Guacamol-yay had their best inning of the 2021 season in the bottom of the second, storming back to take the lead. Ryan led off the inning with a solo shot to left-center, cutting the deficit to 2-1. Sean, a member of the 2020 All-EWL team and making his 2021 debut, tripled in his first at-bat of the season, and he scored when Jude followed with an RBI single that tied the game at 2-2. Two batters later, Alec hit an RBI double to score Jude, and Guacamol-yay led 3-2. Ryan then hit his second bomb of the inning, a two-run homer that extended the Guacamol-yay lead to 5-2. Tom finally escaped the inning, retiring Sean for the second out.

The Guacamol-yay lead was momentary, as Shady Characters matched and exceeded Guacamol-yay’s big inning in the top of the third. Tom led off with a single, and Jason followed with a two-run homer that made the score 5-4. Two batters later, Dylan hit a solo homer that tied the game at 5-5. Mike followed with a solo shot, which put Shady Characters back in front 6-5. Tom then doubled, and Jason drove him in with an RBI double that made the score 7-5. Lucas then hit a two-run homer, Shady Characters’ fourth round-tripper of the inning, that made the score 9-5. Jan retired Dylan for the second out of the inning, and the seven-run rally put Shady Characters ahead by four runs.

Tom rolled through the bottom of the third, retiring Jude and Jan in order.

Mike led off the top of the fourth with a double, but when Tom grounded out for the first out of the inning, Mike was caught in between bases for the second out, ending the inning.

Tom once again cruised in the bottom of the fourth, retiring Alec and Ryan in order.

Shady Characters added an insurance run in the top of the fifth. Jason doubled, and two batters later, Dylan hit a one-out triple, scoring Jason to put Shady Characters in front 10-5. Jan then retired Mike to strand Dylan at third, ending the inning.

Jude hit a one-out double in the bottom of the fifth, but Guacamol-yay couldn’t plate him, as Tom retired Jan to strand the runner at second, ending the inning.

Jason hit a one-out double in the top of the sixth, his fifth hit in as many at-bats, but Jan avoided further damage, retiring Lucas to strand the runner at second, and Shady Characters led by five heading into the final frame.

Tom remained on the mound to close things out for Shady Characters, and the first batter he faced in the bottom of the sixth, Alec, hit a double. Two batters later, Sean hit a one-out single, scoring Alec to cut the Shady Characters lead to 10-6. The rally would end there, however, as Tom retired Jude, stranding Sean at first and ending the game, giving Shady Characters a 10-6 victory.

The win moved Shady Characters to 6-1 on the season, and Guacamol-yay fell to 0-7.
