Jan and Sean Lead Guacamol-yay to 7-4 Win Over Shady Characters

Jan started the game with the third leadoff homer of his EWL career and led Guacamol-yay to a big win over Shady Characters

Jan and Sean combined to go 6-for-7 both homering twice, scoring five and driving in four of the Guacamol-yay runs in a 7-4 win over Shady Characters. Jude also went 3-for-4 in the game with three extra base hits, as Josh K earned the win and Ryan picked up his league-leading third save of the 2020 season.

Shady Characters got on the board immediately in the top of the first when Dylan started the game with a lead off home run. The next batter, Mike, also homered, and the back-to-back jacks put Shady Characters up 2-0. Two batters later, Tom K hit a one-out single, and Lucas drove him in with an RBI double that gave Shady Characters a 3-0 lead. Josh K retired Dylan to end the inning, and Guacamol-yay would get out their bats in the bottom half of the inning.

Tom K started on the mound for Shady Characters, and the first batter he faced, Jan, led off the game with a homer, making the score 3-1. Two batters later, Sean hit a one-out solo shot, narrowing the score to 3-2. Jude followed with a double, but Tom K escaped the inning, retiring Ryan to strand Jude at second.

Sam singled with one out in the top of the second, but Shady Characters couldn’t advance him, as Josh K retired Tom K to end the inning.

Guacamol-yay pulled ahead in the bottom of the second. Jan led off the inning with his second homer in as many at-bats, tying the game at 3-3. Two batters later, Sean hit a one-out triple, and Jude drove him in with a two-run blast, giving Guacamol-yay a 5-3 lead. Tom K retired Ryan to end the inning, and Shady Characters trailed by two.

Shady Characters made a pitching change in the bottom of the third, bringing Sam to the mound. He allowed a single to the first batter he faced, Jan, but retired the next two batters, Josh K and Sean, to strand the runner and end the inning.

Mike led off the top of the fourth with his second homer of the game, a solo shot to right-center that cut the deficit to 5-4. Sam followed with a single, but Josh K retired Tom K and Lucas in order to strand Sam at first, ending the inning and maintaining a one-run lead.

Jude started the bottom of the fourth with a double, and he moved to third when Ryan followed with a double. With no outs and two runners in scoring position, Jan hit a towering fly ball to center. Dylan caught it for the first out, but Jude tagged and scored on the play, and the sac fly extended the Guacamol-yay lead to 6-4. Sam retired Josh K to strand Ryan at third, ending the inning.

Guacamol-yay turned to their bullpen in the top of the fifth, bringing in Ryan to close things out. He retired Dylan and Mike consecutively.

Guacamol-yay added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth. Sean led off the inning with a solo homer, his second of the game, making the score 7-4. Sam retired Jude and Ryan in order to end the inning, and Shady Characters were down three runs heading into the sixth.

Sam doubled to start the top of the sixth, but for the third consecutive inning, he was stranded. A repeat of the fourth and fifth innings, Ryan retired Tom K and Lucas in order, stranding Sam to end the game and give Guacamol-yay the 7-4 victory.

Brett of Cheap Goats Voted Pabst Blue Ribbon Wiffler of the Week for Week 8

Brett of Cheap Goats was voted PBR Wiffler of the Week for the second time in his rookie season after leading Cheap Goats to two wins in week 8.

Continuing the scorching hot pace he has set during his rookie season in the EWL, Brett of Cheap Goats was voted Wiffler of the Week for week 8 of the 2020 EWL season.

Brett was dominant at the plate, leading Cheap Goats’ offensive charge in week 8, when they scored twenty-six combined runs in two victories, extending their win streak to five games and taking command of first place in the EWL standings.

In a 15-9 win over Guacamol-yay, Brett went 4-for-6 with three home runs and seven RBI.

In an 11-6 win over Shady Characters, he went 3-for-6 with a homer and three RBI.

In total, Brett went 7-for-12 with three singles, four home runs, six runs scored, and ten RBI. He also extended his lead in the chase for the 2020 batting title, and he is currently on pace to break the single-season EWL record for batting average.

This is Brett’s second time winning Wiffler of the Week this season, and also the second of his career.

Cheap Goats Pull Away Late for Fifth Straight Win in 11-6 Defeat of Shady Characters

Joey went 4-for-5 with two doubles, two home runs and four RBI to lead Cheap Goats to their fifth consecutive win

Cheap Goats started the 2020 season 5-1 before losing five straight games to drop to 5-6. After beating Shady Characters 11-6, Cheap Goats have now won five consecutive games and have pulled into first place atop the EWL standings at 10-6. Joey and Jordan each had two home runs in the win, and Dinger pitched the complete game, scattering six runs.

Tom K took the mound for Shady Characters, and he got into trouble early. Brett led off the game with a single, and Joey followed with a two-run homer, giving Cheap Goats a 2-0 lead. Jordan followed with a single, and he moved from first to third when Christian doubled. Cheap Goats had two runners in scoring position with no outs, but Tom K avoided significant damage. He got Christian to ground out for the first out of the inning. Jordan scored on the play to make the score 3-0, but Tom K then retired Brett to end the inning, stranding Christian on base.

Tom K provided his own run support as Shady Characters quickly evened things up in the bottom of the first. Dylan led off with a single and moved to third when Mike followed with a double. The next batter, Sam, grounded out to left, but Dylan scored on the play, cutting the Cheap Goats lead to 3-1. Tom K followed with a two-run shot to right-center, evening the score at 3-3. Dinger retired Lucas to end the inning, and Shady Characters had erased Cheap Goats’ early lead.

Shady Characters once again tied the game in the bottom of the fourth. Sam doubled with one out, and Tom K drove him in with an RBI single, tying the score at 4-4. Lucas followed with a single, putting runners on first and second with one out. But Dinger escaped the inning, retiring Dylan to strand both runners, and the score remained even at 4-4 through four innings.

Tom K had kept the Cheap Goats relatively quiet through four innings, but was hit hard in the fifth. Brett led off the inning with a single, and Joey followed with a two-run homer, putting Cheap Goats back in front 6-4. Jordan followed with an inside-the-park home run, and the back-to-back homers made the score 7-4. Tom K exited the game and was replaced by Dylan, who fared only slightly better. Christian singled, and he moved to third when Dinger followed with a double. With no outs and two runners in scoring position, Brett grounded out to center. Both runners managed to score on the play, and Cheap Goats had taken a 9-4 lead. Dylan retired Joey to end the inning, and Shady Characters trailed by five.

Cheap Goats got two more insurance runs in the sixth. Jordan led off the inning with a solo bomb, his second of the game, and the score was 10-6. Christian followed with a triple, and when Dinger grounded out for the first out of the inning, Christian scored, making the score 11-6. Dylan retired Brett to end the inning, and Shady Characters trailed by five heading into their final at-bat.

Jordan continued his second half surge, going 3-for-5 with two home runs

Dinger stayed on the mound to close things out, and he was effective in the sixth. He retired Mike and Sam in order, ending the game and giving Cheap Goats an 11-6 victory.

The win moved Cheap Goats to 10-6 on the season, and the loss dropped Shady Characters to 6-10.

Cheap Goats Pull Away Late with Offensive Onslaught in 15-9 Win Over Guacamol-yay

After trailing 6-0 to Guacamol-yay, Cheap Goats erupted for ten runs in the third inning and fifteen runs over the final three innings, winning an offensive shootout 15-9. Every Cheap Goats player contributed at least three hits, as Brett homered three times, Joey had five extra-base hits, Dinger had four hits, and Jordan and Christian each homered. Christian pitched the complete game win, and Cheap Goats collected their fourth consecutive victory.

Jan led off the top of the first inning with a double, and Josh K drove him in with an RBI double, giving Guacamol-yay an early 1-0 lead. Christian got the next batter, Sean, to ground out to Brett, and Josh K was caught trying to score on the play, ending the inning.

Dinger then singled, and Brett launched his second homer of the inning, a two-run shot that made the score 9-6. Ryan retired the next two batters, Joey and Jordan, ending the inning, and Guacamol-yay trailed by four runs.

Turbo Hits for Cycle, Jack Shack Score Fifteen Unanswered Runs in 15-7 Win Over Shady Characters

Turbo went 5-for-6 with a single, double, triple, two home runs, and four RBI, hitting for the cycle for the second time in his career and leading Jack Shack to a win over Shady Characters

Shady Characters took a 6-0 lead two innings into their week 8 contest with Jack Shack, and then the Jack Shack offense exploded. Turbo hit for the cycle and Dustin and Brian each had four extra-base hits as Jack Shack rallied to score fifteen consecutive runs, taking a 15-6 lead before eventually winning 15-7. Lucas went a perfect 5-for-5 and Dylan went 5-for-6 in a losing effort as Shady Characters were plagued by stranded runners time and again, while Jack Shack capitalized on nearly every opportunity to drive runners in.

Brian took the mound for Jack Shack, and he fell behind early. Dylan led off the game with a single, and Mike followed with a single, putting two on with no outs. Sam cleared the bases with a three-run blast, and Shady Characters led 3-0. Two batters later, Lucas hit a one out double, and he moved to third when Dylan followed with a double. Brian found a groove in the top of the third and stayed on it for the remainder of the game. He retired Sam to start the inning, but allowed back-to-back singles to Tom K and Lucas, putting runners on first and second with one out. Brian got out of the jam, however, retiring Dylan to strand both runners, and the score remained 6-4.

Two batters later, Brian hit an RBI double, scoring Turbo, and Jack Shack had their first lead of the game. Dustin then doubled, driving in Brian and extending the lead to 8-6. Turbo followed with a two-run shot, his second homer of the game, and Jack Shack led 10-6. Tom K finally got out of the inning when Doc flew out to the mound for the second out. Jack Shack had scored six in the inning, taking a four run lead.
