Jon M Outduels Christian as Jack Shack Squeeze Past Cheap Goats 3-2

Jon M was dominant on the mound, allowing only two runs on six hits in Jack Shack’s 3-2 win over Cheap Goats

Defense was king in a rare EWL pitcher’s duel, as Jon M and the Jack Shack fielders narrowly defeated Cheap Goats 3-2, taking an early 3-0 lead and holding on to win. Both pitchers were in control, and neither offense could get started, but Jack Shack’s second inning rally was just enough to earn the victory.

Christian started for Cheap Goats, and he retired Josh and Jon M in order in the top of the first.

Jon M took the mound for Jack Shack, and he matched Christian in the bottom of the first, sending Joey and Courtlen down consecutively.

Jack Shack provided some run support in the top of the second. Jon D led off with a single and moved to third when Jacob followed with a double. Ryan cleared the bases with an RBI triple, and Jack Shack led 2-0. Josh followed with an RBI single, scoring Ryan, and the lead was 3-0. Christian retired Jon M and Jon D to strand Josh at first, ending the inning, and Cheap Goats trailed by three.

Christian provided his own run support in the bottom of the second, leading off the inning with a solo homer that cut the score to 3-1. Dinger followed with a single, but Jon M stranded him, retiring Kevin and Joey to end the inning, and Jack Shack led by two runs.

Jacob singled to start the top of the third, but Christian retired Ryan and Josh, stranding the runner at first, and the score remained 3-1.

Courtlen led off the bottom of the third with a solo homer, and the score was 3-2. Jon M then retired Christian and Dinger to end the inning.

Kevin led off the bottom of the fourth with a single, but Jon M stranded him, retiring Joey and Courtlen to end the inning.

Christian once again rolled in the top of the fifth, sending Jacob and Ryan down in order.

Josh doubled to lead off the top of the sixth, but Jack Shack couldn’t add to their lead. Christian retired Jon M and Jon D, stranding the runner at second, and Cheap Goats would need a run in the bottom of the sixth.

Jon M remained on the mound to close things out in the bottom of the sixth. After retiring Joey, he allowed a one-out double to Courtlen, putting the tying run in scoring position and the winning run at the plate. Cheap Goats couldn’t capitalize, however, as Jon M retired Christian to strand the runner, ending the inning and the game, and giving Jack Shack an efficient 3-2 victory.

The win moved Jack Shack to 8-9, and the loss dropped Cheap Goats to 6-11.

Short-Handed Shady Characters Pull Away Late to Stun Cheap Goats 14-8

Despite playing with a reserve player, and only one game after losing in one of the most historically lopsided games in EWL history, Shady Characters scored nine runs in the fifth and sixth innings combined to beat Cheap Goats 14-8. Thomas went 5-for-7 with three home runs and six RBI to lead Shady Characters, and Donut Man, filling in to complete the roster, hit for the cycle, as Shady Characters handed Cheap Goats one of the more disappointing losses in recent memory.

Christian started on the mound, and Shady Characters got to him early. Thomas led off the game with a double, and he scored when Nate followed with an RBI single that put Shady Characters in front 1-0. Two batters later, Donut Man, in his first at-bat of the 2024 season, hit a two-run homer, making the score 3-0. Christian retired Thomas to end the inning, and Cheap Goats trailed by three runs.

Cheap Goats cut into the lead in the bottom of the first. Joey led off with a double, and two batters later, Christian hit a two-run homer, cutting the deficit to 3-2. Shady Characters starter, Lucas, retired Dinger to end the inning, and the lead was one run.

Cheap Goats came to life in the bottom of the second, taking the lead. Kevin singled, but was called out trying to extend the hit into a double. Joey then singled, and Courtlen followed with a two-run bomb, putting Cheap Goats ahead 4-3. Christian followed with his second homer in as many at-bats, and the back-to-back jacks gave Cheap Goats a 5-3 lead. Dinger singled, and Kevin followed with a two-run homer, extending the Cheap Goats lead to 7-3. Joey then homered, and Cheap Goats second pair of back-to-back homers in the inning made the score 8-3. Lucas finally retired Courtlen to end the inning, and Cheap Goats had scored six runs to take a five-run lead.

Christian retired Donut Man to start the top of the third, and Thomas followed with a solo homer, narrowing the Cheap Goats lead to 8-4. Christian then retired Nate to end the inning.

Christian singled to lead off the bottom of the third, and Dinger followed with a single, putting runners on first and second with no outs. It looked as if Cheap Goats would rally again, but Lucas buckled down, retiring Kevin and Joey to strand both runners, escaping the inning unscathed.

Lucas led off the top of the fourth with a solo homer, and the score was 8-5. Donut Man followed with a double, but Christian retired Thomas and Nate to strand him at second, and the Cheap Goats lead was three runs.

Lucas retired Courtlen and Christian in order in the bottom of the fourth, and Shady Characters started a charge in the top of the fifth.

For the second consecutive inning, Lucas led off with a solo homer, cutting the score to 8-6. Donut Man tripled, and Thomas followed with a two-run homer, tying the game at 8-8. Nate hit a solo shot, and the back-to-back homers gave Shady Characters a 9-8 lead. Christian was pulled from the game, and Dinger came to the mound from the bullpen. He retired Lucas and Donut Man to end the inning.

Lucas once again cruised through the bottom of the fifth, retiring Dinger and Kevin in order.

Shady Characters opened up a big lead in the top of the sixth. Thomas singled, and two batters later, Lucas hit a one-out RBI single to make the score 10-8. Donut Man singled, giving him the cycle for the first time in his career, and putting runners on first and second with one out. Thomas emptied the bases with his third homer of the game, a three-run shot that put Shady Characters in front 13-8. Nate then homered, the second time he and Thomas hit back-to-back homers in the game, and Shady Characters led 14-8. Dinger struck out Lucas to end the sixth, and Cheap Goats trailed by six runs heading into their final at-bat.

Lucas had reached his innings limit for the week, so Thomas came to the mound to close things out. He made quick work of Cheap Goats, retiring Joey and Courtlen in order, ending the inning and the game, and giving Shady Characters a surprising 14-8 win.

The win moved Shady Characters to 10-6 on the season, and the loss dropped Cheap Goats to 6-10.

Courtlen, Christian, and Kevin each went deep twice as Cheap Goats outlasted Guac Boys 10-7

Courtlen, Christian, and Kevin combined for six home runs and drove in all ten Cheap Goats runs in a 10-7 victory over Guac Boys. The game was tied 5-5 through four innings before Cheap Goats pulled away late, capped by Courtlen’s three-run homer in the top of the sixth. Dinger pitched the complete game win, handing Guac Boys their fifth consecutive loss to start the second half of the season.

Bohn started for Guac Boys, and he retired the side in order in the top of the first.

The rally would end there, as Dinger retired Alec to strand Tone at second, ending the inning and the game and giving Cheap Goats a 10-7 victory.

The win moved Cheap Goats to 6-9 on the season, and the loss dropped Guac Boys, who came into the second half with an 8-2 record, to 8-7.

Nate’s Extra-Innings Walk-Off Homer Thwarts Cheap Goats Comeback as Shady Characters Prevail 11-10

Nate’s walk-off homer in the bottom of the seventh gave Shady Characters their second consecutive walk-off win and an 11-10 victory over Cheap Goats

In one of the best games of the 2024 season, Shady Characters continued to rule their regular season series with Cheap Goats, holding off a late-game comeback and winning in extra-innings when Nate led off the the bottom of the seventh with a walk-off homer, the second walk-off win in a row for Shady Characters. Cheap Goats trailed 9-5 in the top of the sixth before scoring five runs to take a 10-5 lead, only to see Shady Characters tie the game in the bottom of the sixth and win the game in the bottom of the seventh. Nate led the way, going 5-for-7 with a single, a triple, three home runs, five runs scored, and five RBI.

Lucas started for Shady Characters, and after retiring Joey to start the game, he allowed a one-out single to Courtlen. Christian followed with a single, scoring Courtlen, but Christian was caught out trying to extend the hit to a double, ending the inning with the score 1-0.

Christian took the mound for Cheap Goats, and he retired the side in order in the top of the first, sending Tom and Nate down consecutively.

Dinger led off the top of the second with a single, and two batters later, Joey hit a one-out double to put runners on second and third. Lucas escaped the threat, however, retiring Courtlen to strand both runners, ending the inning, and the score remained 1-0.

Christian was once again effective in the bottom of the second, retiring Thomas and Lucas in order, maintaining the one-run lead.

Christian doubled to start the top of the third, and two batters later, Kevin hit an RBI single to score him, putting Cheap Goats ahead 2-0. Joey followed with a double, putting runners on second and third with one out, but Lucas once again avoided significant damage, retiring Courtlen to strand both runners, ending the inning.

Shady Characters evened up the score in the bottom of the third. Tom led off with a double, and Nate followed with a two-run homer, tying the game at 2-2. Two batters later, Lucas hit a one-out double, but Christian stranded him, retiring Tom to end the inning with the score tied at 2-2.

Christian was chased from the mound, and Cheap Goats brought in Dinger from the bullpen. He retired the first batter he faced, Lucas, to end the inning, and Cheap Goats trailed by five runs.

Shady Characters built on their lead in the bottom of the fifth. Tom led off with a double, and Nate followed with a two-run homer, pushing the score to 9-5. Dinger retired Thomas and Lucas to end the inning, and Cheap Goats would need four runs in the top of the sixth.

Courtlen led off the top of the sixth with a double, and Christian followed with his second two-run homer of the game, cutting the score to 9-7. Two batters later, Kevin hit a one-out single, and Joey followed with a single, putting runners on first and second. Shady Characters opted to intentionally walk Courtlen, loading the bases for Christian, who had homered in his last two at-bats. He delivered with an RBI single, scoring Kevin and Joey, tying the game at 9-9. Dinger followed with an RBI double, scoring Courtlen, and Cheap Goats had scored five runs in the top of the sixth to take a 10-9 lead. Cheap Goats had two runners on and a chance to take a bigger lead, but Lucas escaped further damage, retiring Kevin to end the inning, and Shady Characters trailed by a run heading into the bottom of the sixth.

Tom immediately extended the game, leading off the bottom of the sixth with a solo homer that tied the score at 10-10. Dinger retired Nate for the first out of the inning, and Cheap Goats intentionally walked Thomas to get to Lucas. With the winning run on first base, Lucas singled, pushing the winning run to second. Tom came to the plate with two runners on and a chance to end the game, but Dinger got him to ground out to left, ending the inning and sending the game to extra innings.

Cheap Goats had the top of the order up in the seventh, but Lucas retired Joey and Courtlen in order, and the score remained tied at 10-10.

After tying the game immediately in the bottom of the sixth, Shady Characters immediately ended the game in the bottom of the seventh. Cheap Goats brought Christian back into the game because Dinger had reached his innings limit for the week, and the pitching change was not effective. The first batter of the inning, Nate, led off with his third homer of the game, a solo walk-off homer, ending the game and giving Shady Characters a dramatic 11-10 victory.

The win moved Shady Characters to 9-5, in sole possession of first place in the standings, and the loss dropped Cheap Goats into last place at 5-9.

Courtlen went 4-for-4 with two singles, two home runs, four runs scored, and three RBI, leading Cheap Goats to an 8-4 win over Jack Shack, pulling Cheap Goats even with Jack Shack for third in the season standings. Joey also went 3-for-4 with two singles and a home run, Christian had a double, a two-run homer and three RBI, and Dinger pitched five innings of relief to earn the win on the mound.
