Jon M Outduels Christian as Jack Shack Squeeze Past Cheap Goats 3-2

Jon M was dominant on the mound, allowing only two runs on six hits in Jack Shack’s 3-2 win over Cheap Goats

Defense was king in a rare EWL pitcher’s duel, as Jon M and the Jack Shack fielders narrowly defeated Cheap Goats 3-2, taking an early 3-0 lead and holding on to win. Both pitchers were in control, and neither offense could get started, but Jack Shack’s second inning rally was just enough to earn the victory.

Christian started for Cheap Goats, and he retired Josh and Jon M in order in the top of the first.

Jon M took the mound for Jack Shack, and he matched Christian in the bottom of the first, sending Joey and Courtlen down consecutively.

Jack Shack provided some run support in the top of the second. Jon D led off with a single and moved to third when Jacob followed with a double. Ryan cleared the bases with an RBI triple, and Jack Shack led 2-0. Josh followed with an RBI single, scoring Ryan, and the lead was 3-0. Christian retired Jon M and Jon D to strand Josh at first, ending the inning, and Cheap Goats trailed by three.

Christian provided his own run support in the bottom of the second, leading off the inning with a solo homer that cut the score to 3-1. Dinger followed with a single, but Jon M stranded him, retiring Kevin and Joey to end the inning, and Jack Shack led by two runs.

Jacob singled to start the top of the third, but Christian retired Ryan and Josh, stranding the runner at first, and the score remained 3-1.

Courtlen led off the bottom of the third with a solo homer, and the score was 3-2. Jon M then retired Christian and Dinger to end the inning.

Christian once again rolled in the top of the fifth, sending Jacob and Ryan down in order.

Josh doubled to lead off the top of the sixth, but Jack Shack couldn’t add to their lead. Christian retired Jon M and Jon D, stranding the runner at second, and Cheap Goats would need a run in the bottom of the sixth.

Jon M remained on the mound to close things out in the bottom of the sixth. After retiring Joey, he allowed a one-out double to Courtlen, putting the tying run in scoring position and the winning run at the plate. Cheap Goats couldn’t capitalize, however, as Jon M retired Christian to strand the runner, ending the inning and the game, and giving Jack Shack an efficient 3-2 victory.

The win moved Jack Shack to 8-9, and the loss dropped Cheap Goats to 6-11.

Bohn and Tone Combine for Seven Homers in Guac Boys 15-9 Win Over Jack Shack

Bohn went 6-for-7 with a single, double, four homeruns, five runs scored, and six RBI to help Guac Boys snap their five-game losing streak

Guac Boys finished the first half of the 2024 in sole possession of first place, and they started the second half with five consecutive losses. They snapped the losing streak abruptly in a 15-9 win over Jack Shack, led by Bohn, who went 6-for-7, and Tone, who went 5-for-7, as the two combined for seven home runs and eleven RBI. The two Guac Boys sluggers outscored Jack Shack themselves, and Guac Boys stopped their slide down the EWL standings with a big win.

Jon D took the mound for Jack Shack, and Guac Boys got to him early. Bohn led off the game with a solo homer, immediately making the score 1-0. Tone followed with a solo shot, and the back-to-back blasts put Guac Boys ahead 2-0. Alec doubled, and he scored when Form followed with an RBI double, extending the lead to 3-0. Jan singled, putting runners on first and third with no outs. Two batters later, Tone hit a one-out RBI single, scoring Form, and the lead was 4-0. Jon D retired Alec to strand two Guac Boys runners, ending the inning, and Jack Shack were down four runs.

Jack Shack responded right away in the bottom of the first, hitting Bohn, Guac Boys’ starter, hard. Josh led off the game with a solo homer, and the score was 4-1. Jon M followed with a solo shot, as did Jon D, and Jack Shack had started the game with back-to-back-to-back homers to cut the score to 4-3. Two batters later, Ryan hit a solo shot, and Jack Shack had gone deep four times in their first five at-bats to tie the game at 4-4. Bohn retired Josh to end the inning, and the game was tied.

Jan hit a one-out double in the top of the second, and Bohn followed with his second homer of the game, a two-run shot that put Guac Boys back in front 6-4. Tone doubled, but Jon D stranded him, retiring Alec to end the inning.

Guac Boys added to their lead in the top of the fourth. Bohn started the inning with a single, and Tone followed with his second homer of the game, a two-run bomb that made the score 8-5. Alec singled, and Form followed with a two-run shot, putting Guac Boys in front 10-5. Jon D retired Jan, but Bohn followed with his third homer of the game, a solo blast that extended the Guac Boys lead to 11-5. Jon D retired Tone to end the inning, and Guac Boys had opened up a six run lead.

Jack Shack responded once again in the bottom of the fourth. Jon D doubled, and Jacob followed with a two-run homer, cutting the score to 11-7. Ryan also homered, and the back-to-back jacks narrowed the deficit to 11-8. Josh singled, and he moved from first to third when Jon M singled. Jan got Jon D to ground out for the first out of the inning, but Josh scored on the play, and Jack Shack trailed 11-9. Jan retired Jacob to end the inning, and Jack Shack had cut the Guac Boys lead to two runs.

Guac Boys added insurance runs in the top of the sixth. Bohn led off the inning with his fourth round-tripper of the game, a solo shot that extended the lead to 12-9. Tone also homered, and the two players combined for back-to-back homers for the second time in the game, making the score 13-9. Alec singled, and two batters later, he scored from second when Jan hit a one-out RBI single that pushed the score to 14-9. Bohn doubled, scoring Jan, and Guac Boys led 15-9. Jon D retired Tone to end the inning, stranding Bohn at first, and Jack Shack were down six runs heading into the bottom of the sixth.

Jan remained on the mound to close things out for Guac Boys, and he made quick work of Jack Shack in the bottom of the sixth. He retired Jon D and Jacob in order, ending the game, giving Guac Boys a 15-9 victory.

Guac Boys improved to 9-7 on the season, and the loss dropped Jack Shack to 7-9.

Jack Shack Annihilate Short-Handed Shady Characters in Record-Breaking 27-7 Victory

Ryan was one of four Jack Shack players to hit for the cycle in one of the most lopsided victories in league history, a 27-7 win over Shady Characters

Jack Shack came into week 8 having won five of their last eight games after an 0-4 start to the season, and they met little resistance from a depleted Shady Characters roster, setting several EWL records en route to a 27-7 win. Four of Jack Shack’s five players hit for the cycle, the first team in league history with more than two players to hit for the cycle in the same game, and they broke the team single-game record for most hits in a game and tied the record for most triples in a game over the course of a beatdown of historic proportions.

Lucas took the mound for Shady Characters, and he immediately got into massive trouble. In an unusual move, and for the first time in league history, the game’s leadoff batter, Josh, was intentionally walked, setting a losing tone that would permeate deeply throughout the game. The next batter, Jon M, hit an RBI triple, scoring Josh, and Jack Shack led 1-0. Two batters later, Jacob hit an RBI double to score Jon M, the first of ten consecutive Jack Shack hits, and Shady Characters trailed 2-0. Ryan hit an RBI single to score Jacob, and the lead was 3-0. Josh singled, putting runners on the corners, and Jon M followed with an RBI double to score both runners, putting Jack Shack ahead 5-0. Jon D then tripled, scoring Jon M, and the lead was 6-0. Jacob tripled, scoring Jon D, and Shady Characters trailed 7-. Ryan doubled, scoring Jacob, pushing the lead to 8-0. Josh followed with a two-run homer, and Jack Shack was in front 10-0. Jon M singled, and wen Jon D followed with a double, Jon M was thrown out at home, ending a disastrous first inning that found Shady Characters trailing by ten runs before coming to bat.

Jon M started for Jack Shack, and the first batter he faced, Thomas, hit a leadoff homer, cutting the deficit to 10-1. Two batters later, Lucas hit a one-out single, but Jon retired Johnny, filling in for Shady Characters, to end the inning.

Lucas retired Jacob to start the top of the second, but Ryan followed with a solo homer, making the score 11-1. Josh singled, and when Jon M hit a double, Josh was thrown out trying to score, and another inning ended with an outfield assist.

For the second consecutive inning, Thomas led off the bottom of the first with a solo homer, making the score 11-2. Two batters later, Lucas once again singled with one out, but Jon M stranded him again, retiring Johnny to end the inning.

Up nine runs, Jack Shack blew the game open in the top of the third. Jon D led off with a double, and Jacob followed with a two-run homer, pushing the score to 13-2. Ryan tripled, completing the cycle in his first four at-bats, and Josh followed with a single to put runners on the corners. Two batters later, with one out, Jon D hit a three-run homer, and Jack Shack led 16-2. Jacob doubled, and Ryan followed with his second homer of the game, a two-run shot that made the score 18-2. Lucas retired Josh to end the inning, and Shady Characters trailed by sixteen runs.

Thomas started the bottom of the third with a double, and Nate followed with an RBI double, narrowing the Jack Shack lead to 18-3. Jon M retired the next two batters, stranding Nate at second an ending the inning.

Shady Characters brought Thomas to the mound for his first career pitching appearance, and the first batter he faced, Jon M, led off the top of the fourth with a solo homer, giving him the cycle, and Jack Shack led 19-3. Jon D singled, making him the third Jack Shack player to reach the cycle through four innings, but Lucas avoided another catastrophic inning, retiring Jacob and Ryan to strand the runner, and Jack Shack led by sixteen runs.

Jon M and Jon D each singled to start the inning, putting runners on the corners, and Jacob followed with an RBI double, scoring both runners, and Jack Shack led 23-7. Ryan followed with a two-run homer, his third blast of the game, and the lead was 25-7. Josh followed with a solo shot, as did Jon M, and the back-to-back-to-back homers gave Jack Shack a 27-7 lead. Thomas retired Jon D, and after allowing a one-out triple to Jacob, he retired Ryan to strand the runner at third, ending the inning, and Shady Characters were down twenty runs.

Thomas hit a double to start the bottom of the sixth, making him six-for-six in the game, but Jon M stranded him. He retired Nate and Lucas to end the inning and the game, giving Jack Shack a historic 27-7 win.

The win moved Jack Shack to 7-8 on the season, within a game of .500, and the loss dropped Shady Characters to 9-6.

Jack Shack scored in all but one inning, led by Jon M who went 4-for-5 with a single, a triple, two home runs, two runs scored, and four RBI, continuing their midseason surge up the standings. Jon was also in control on the mound, scattering four hits and allowing only one run in a game Jack Shack controlled from beginning to end.

Bohn started for Guac Boys, and after allowing a one-out triple to Jon M, he retired Jon D, stranding the runner at third and ending the inning.

Courtlen went 4-for-4 with two singles, two home runs, four runs scored, and three RBI, leading Cheap Goats to an 8-4 win over Jack Shack, pulling Cheap Goats even with Jack Shack for third in the season standings. Joey also went 3-for-4 with two singles and a home run, Christian had a double, a two-run homer and three RBI, and Dinger pitched five innings of relief to earn the win on the mound.
