Cheap Goats Score Fifteen Runs in Second Inning, Even Series with 16-8 Game Two Win Over Shady Characters

Christian went 4-for-6 with a single, a double, two homers, three runs scored, and five RBI, including three hits and four RBI in Cheap Goats’ historic second inning, to lead Cheap Goats to a game two victory

Cheap Goats had the most productive single inning in the history of the EWL playoffs, scoring fifteen runs in the second inning of their game two win over Shady Characters. They only scored one other run in the contest, and they allowed a six-run rally in the bottom of the sixth, but the big second inning was enough to hang on to a 16-8 victory. Joey, who went 4-for-6 with three doubles, a homer, four runs scored, and three RBI, and Christian, who went 4-for-6 with a single, a double, two home runs, three runs scored, and five RBI, led the way for Cheap Goats. Courtlen, Dinger, and Kevin also had three hits each, as Cheap Goats evened up the best-of-five series with Shady Characters 1-1.

Tom started on the mound for Shady Characters, and he rolled through the top of the first, retiring Joey and Courtlen in order.

Dinger took the mound for Cheap Goats. He retired Tom to start the bottom of the first before allowing a one-out single to Nate. Thomas followed with an RBI triple, and Shady Characters led 1-0. Dinger then retired Billy to end the inning.

After struggling offensively in game one of the series, which was a continuation of their inconsistent performance throughout the 2024 regular season, Cheap Goats unloaded on Shady Characters in the top of the second. Christian started the barrage with a solo homer to lead off the inning, tying the game at 1-1. Dinger singled, and he moved to third when Kevin followed with a double. Joey cleared the bases with a three-run homer, and Cheap Goats led 4-1. Courtlen singled, and two batters later, he scored from first when Dinger hit a one-out RBI single that made the score 5-1. Kevin hit a two-run homer, and the Cheap Goats lead was 7-1. Joey doubled, and he scored from first when Courtlen hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 8-1. Christian doubled, scoring Courtlen, and Cheap Goats were in front 9-1. Dinger hit a two-run homer, and Cheap Goats had taken a 11-1 lead. Kevin singled, and he moved from first to third when Joey followed with a double. Courtlen emptied the bases with a two-RBI double that made the score 13-1. Christian followed with his second homer of the inning, a two-run bomb that gave Cheap Goats a 15-1 lead. Tom finally escaped the historically disastrous inning by retiring Dinger for the second out of the inning. Cheap Goats had broken the record for most runs scored in an inning of a playoff game, with 15, and they had also broken the record for most runs scored with one out in an inning of a playoff game, with 10.

Dinger allowed a one-out double to Tom in the bottom of the second, but stranded him, retiring Nate to end the inning.

Shady Characters turned to the bullpen in the top of the third, bringing Lucas to the mound. He was immediately more effective than Tom, retiring Kevin and Joey in order.

Dinger retired Thomas to start the bottom of the third, and Billy followed with a solo homer, making the score 15-2. Dinger then retired Lucas to end the inning.

Lucas continued to pitch effectively in relief in the top of the fourth, striking out Courtlen and retiring Christian.

Nate singled with one out in the bottom of the fourth, and he moved from first to third when Thomas followed with a double. Shady Characters had two runners in scoring position, but Dinger escaped without damage, retiring Billy to strand both runners, ending the inning.

Lucas rolled once again in the top of the fifth, sending Dinger and Kevin down consecutively, and he had retired the first six batters that he faced.

Dinger cruised through the bottom of the fifth, retiring Lucas and Tom in order, maintaining the thirteen run lead.

Joey led off the top of the sixth with a double, and two batters later, he scored from second when Christian hit an RBI single, extending the Cheap Goats lead to 16-2. Lucas retired Dinger to end the inning, and Shady Characters would need a miraculous rally in the bottom of the sixth.

Despite being down a substantial margin, Shady Characters showed heart in the bottom of the sixth. Nate led off the inning with a solo homer, cutting the score to 16-3. Thomas followed with a solo shot, and so did Billy, and Shady Characters had gone back-to-back-to-back to cut the score to 16-5. Lucas singled, and two batters later, Nate hit his second home run of the inning, a two-run shot that made the score 16-7. Thomas singled, completing the cycle, and he scored from first when Billy followed with an RBI double, narrowing the Cheap Goats lead to 16-8. Shady Characters showed up in the bottom of the sixth, and Cheap Goats were starting to waver, but the rally would end there. Dinger retired Lucas for the second out of the inning, ending the game and giving Cheap Goats a 16-8 victory in game 2.

Cheap Goats’ win evened the best-of-five first round series at 1-1, with the winner advancing to the Wiffle Series.

Form Powers Guac Boys to 9-5 Game One Win Over Jack Shack

Form returned to Playoff Form, hitting two home runs and helping Guac Boys take an early lead in their first round series with Jack Shack

The 2023 postseason was a coming out party for Form, as he had monster performances in both the first round and the Wiffle Series and was one of the most dangerous bats in the 2023 playoffs. He appears to have returned to Playoff Form in 2024, leading off the game and series with a home run and later hitting a three-run homer that put the game away as Guac Boys rolled past Jack Shack in the opener of their first round series. Five Guac Boys players had multiple hits, Bohn and Jan each pitched effectively to keep the Jack Shack bats in check, and after pulling ahead 9-2, Guac Boys held on to win 9-5 to take an early lead in the best-of-five series.

Bohn started on the mound for Guac Boys, and he retired the side in order in the top of the first, sending Josh and Jon D down consecutively.

Jon D took the mound for Jack Shack, and the first batter he faced, Form, hit a solo homer to left-center, putting Guac Boys ahead 1-0. Bohn singled, and two batters later, Tone hit a two-run shot to right-center, making the score 3-0. Jon D retired Jan to end the inning, and Jack Shack trailed early.

Bohn rolled in the top of the second, sending Jacob and Ryan down in order.

Jon D retired Jude to start the bottom of the second, but Brum followed with a solo homer, extending the Guac Boys lead to 4-0. Jon D then retired Form to end the inning, and Jack Shack trailed by four runs.

Josh put Jack Shack on the board when he led off the top of the third with a solo homer, cutting the score to 4-1. Jon D followed with a double, and two batters later, Ryan hit a one-out RBI double to score him, narrowing the deficit to 4-2. Bohn retired Josh to end the inning, and Jack Shack had cut the Guac Boys lead in half.

Bohn led off the bottom of the third with a single, and Alec followed with a two-run homer, pushing the Guac Boys lead to 6-2. Jon D retired Tone and Jan to end the inning, and the Guac Boys lead was back up to four runs.

Bohn got back on track in the top of the fourth, retiring Jon D and Jacob in order, maintaining the four-run lead.

Guac Boys continued to add to their lead in the bottom of the fourth. Jude singled, and Brum followed with a single, putting runners on the corners with no outs. Form cleared the bases with a towering three-run homer, and Guac Boys led 9-2. Two batters later Alec hit a one-out double, but Jon D stranded him, retiring Tone to end the inning, and Guac Boys led by seven runs.

Ryan led off the top of the fifth with a solo homer, making the score 9-3. Josh tripled, and he scored when Jon D grounded out for the first out of the inning. Bohn retired Jacob to end the inning, and Jack Shack had scored two runs to cut the Guac Boys lead to 9-4.

Jude hit a one-out double in the bottom of the fifth, but Jon D stranded him, retiring Brum to end the inning, and Jack Shack would need five runs in the sixth.

Guac Boys turned to the bullpen in the top of the sixth, bringing Jan to the mound. The first batter he faced, Ryan, doubled, and Josh followed with an RBI double to score him, cutting the score to 9-5. Jack Shack couldn’t rally, however. Jan retired Jon D and Jacob to strand Josh at second, ending the inning and the game, giving Guac Boys a 9-5 game one victory.

The win gave Guac Boys a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five first round series, with the winner of the series advancing to the Wiffle Series.

Thomas made a splash in his first career playoff game, going 4-for-4 with four home runs, four runs scored, and six RBI as Shady Characters won game one 10-3

Three-time defending champions Shady Characters started their repeat campaign with a definitive win over Cheap Goats in their best-of-five series, pulling ahead 8-0 and holding on to win 10-3. Their all-world rookie, Thomas, was electric in his first career playoff game, going 4-for-4 with four homers, driving in six runs and earning an intentional walk in his final at-bat. Nate and Billy each had three hits, and Tom went deep twice in addition to pitching the complete game win, as Shady Characters opened the playoffs in style.

Tom started on the mound for Shady Characters in game 1, and he retired Joey and Courtlen in order in the top of the first.

Christian took the mound for Cheap Goats, and he fell behind early. After retiring Tom to start the game, he allowed a one-out double to Nate. Thomas followed with a two-run bomb, putting Shady Characters ahead 2-0. Billy followed with a double, but Christian stranded him, retiring Lucas to end the inning.

Shady Characters opened up a big early lead in the bottom of the second. Tom led off the inning with a solo homer, providing his own run support and giving Shady Characters a 3-0 lead. Nate singled, and Thomas followed with his second two-run blast of the game, extending the lead to 5-0. Billy then singled, and two batters later, Tom hit his second homer of the inning, a two-run shot that put Shady Characters in front 7-0. Christian retired Nate to end the inning, and Cheap Goats were in a hole.

Tom cruised through the top of the third, retiring Kevin and Joey, and he had not allowed a base runner over the first three innings.

Thomas led off the bottom of the third with a solo shot, his third homer in as many at-bats, pushing the Shady Characters lead to 8-0. Billy doubled, but Christian avoided further damage, retiring Lucas and Tom to strand the runner, and Cheap Goats trailed by eight runs.

Courtlen got Cheap Goats first hit of the game when he led off the top of the fourth with a triple. Christian put Cheap Goats on the board when he followed with a two-run homer, cutting the score to 8-2. Dinger singled, and two batters later, Joey drove him in with an RBI single that made the score 8-3. Joey was called out trying to extend the hit into a double, ending the inning.

Christian struck out Nate to start the bottom of the fourth. Thomas came to the plate and for the fourth consecutive time, he launched a home run, this one a solo shot that made the score 9-3. Christian retired Billy to end the inning, and Cheap Goats were down by six runs.

Christian hit a one-out single in the top of the fifth, but Cheap Goats couldn’t rally. Tom retired Dinger to strand the runner, ending the inning, maintaining the six run lead.

Lucas singled to lead off the bottom of the fifth. Two batters later, Nate hit a one-out RBI double to score him, and Shady Characters led 10-3. Thomas wouldn’t have a chance to hit his fifth homer, as Christian intentionally walked him to put runners on first and second with one out. The move worked, as Christian struck out Billy to end the inning, stranding both runners.

Cheap Goats would need seven runs in the top of the sixth to stay alive, but Tom made quick work of them. He retired Kevin and Joey to end the inning and the game, giving Shady Characters a 10-3 victory.

The win gave Shady Characters a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five first round series, with the winner of the series advancing to the Wiffle Series.

Shady Characters Hold Off Late Cheap Goats Rally to Win Game Two and Even Series at 1-1

Dylan and Jesse each homered in the second inning, providing all the runs Shady Characters would need to win game one

After a surprising game one loss, Shady Characters rebounded in game two, taking an early lead and holding off a sixth inning Cheap Goats rally to win a hard-fought game two, splitting the best-of-five first round series at 1-1. Dylan and Jesse each homered in the second inning, when Shady Characters scored all five of their runs. It turned out to be just enough, and the defending champs avoided falling into an early hole against last place Cheap Goats.

Lucas took the mound for Shady Characters, and the first batter he faced, Joey, led off the game with a double. Bob followed with an RBI single, scoring Joey to put Cheap Goats ahead 1-0. Joe followed with a single, putting two Cheap Goats runners on with no outs. It looked as if Lucas was in trouble, but he escaped the jam. He retired Christian and Dinger to strand both runners, minimizing the damage, and Cheap Goats led 1-0.

Christian started for Cheap Goats, and he retired Dylan and Jason in order in the bottom of the first.

Lucas got into a groove starting in the top of the second, retiring Joey and Bob consecutively.

Down a run, Shady Characters rallied in the bottom of the second. Lucas singled with one out, and he moved from first to third when Nate followed with a double. Dylan emptied the bases with a three-run homer, giving Shady Characters a 3-1 lead, their first lead of the series. Jason then doubled, and Jesse followed with a two-run homer, putting Shady Characters ahead 5-1. Christian finally escaped the inning, retiring Lucas for the second out, and Shady Characters had claimed a four-run lead.

Lucas continued to roll in the top of the third, retiring Joe and Christian in order.

Christian got back on track in the bottom of the third, sending Nate and Dylan down consecutively.

Joey tripled with one out in the top of the fourth, but Cheap Goats couldn’t capitalize. Lucas retired Bob to strand the runner and end the inning, and Shady Characters preserved a four-run lead.

Christian matched him in the bottom of the fifth, sending Nate and Dylan down in order, and Cheap Goats trailed by four heading into their final at-bat.

Lucas retired Dinger to start the top of the sixth, putting Shady Characters an out away from victory, but Cheap Goats started to rally. Joey hit a solo homer, narrowing the score to 5-2. Bob followed with a double, and Joe hit a two-run shot, cutting the deficit to a single run at 5-4. The tying run was at the plate and Cheap Goats were threatening, but Lucas settled down and closed things out. He retired Christian for the second out of the inning, ending the game, and giving Shady Characters a 5-4 win.

The win tied the best-of-five first round series at one game each.

Brian Throws Three-Hit Shutout and Jack Shack Pull Away Late to take Commanding Lead in Series with 4-0 Game Two Victory

Brian pitched a complete game shutout, allowing only thee hits, as Jack Shack moved within a game of advancing to the Wiffle Series

Jack Shack came into their first round series with the Guac Boys as underdogs, but after the first two games of the series, they had outscored their opponents 12-2, and with a win in game two they were one victory away from returning to the Wiffle Series for the first time since they won the title in 2020. Brian was dominant on the mound, allowing only three hits and only one runner past first base, as Jack Shack maintained a narrow lead throughout the game. Brian, Austin, and Adam homered in the top of the sixth, putting the game out of reach, and giving Jack Shack a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five first round series.

Kyle took the mound for the Guac Boys, and the first batter he faced, Rob, doubled. Kyle got the next batter, Austin, to ground out to right, but Rob scored from second on the play, giving Jack Shack a 1-0 lead. Kyle then retired Adam to end the inning.

Alec led off the bottom of the first with a single for the Guac Boys, but Brian stranded him, retiring Jude and Brum to strand the runner at first, ending the inning.

Kyle struck out Josh to start the top of the second, and after allowing a one-out double to Brian, he retired Rob to strand the runner at second, and the score remained 1-0.

Brian rolled through the bottom of the second, retiring Kyle and Anthony in order.

Kyle matched Brian in the top of the third, sending Austin and Adam down consecutively.

Jude singled with one out in the bottom of the third, but the Guac Boys couldn’t advance him. Brian retired Brum to strand the runner at first, and Jack Shack maintained a one-run lead.

Kyle retired Josh and Brian in order in the top of the fourth, and Brian did the same in the bottom half of the inning, sending Kyle and Anthony down consecutively.

Jack Shack threatened in the top of the fifth, but Kyle and the Guac Boys escaped a jam. After retiring Rob to start the inning, Kyle allowed back-to-back singles to Austin and Adam, putting runners on first and second. Kyle buckled down, however, retiring Josh to strand both runners, and the Guac Boys continued to trail by a single run.

Jude doubled with one out in the bottom of the fifth, and the Guac Boys had the tying runner in scoring position. They couldn’t capitalize, however, as Brian retired Brum to strand Jude at second, and Jack Shack continued to lead 1-0 heading into the final inning.

After both teams combined for a single run through five innings, Jack Shack opened up a sizable lead in the top of the sixth. Brian led off the inning with a solo homer, putting Jack Shack ahead 2-0. Two batters later, Austin homered to right-center, extending the lead to three runs. Adam followed with Jack Shack’s third solo shot of the inning, and the back-to-back jacks made the score 4-0. Kyle retired Josh to end the inning, and it would be an uphill climb for the Guac Boys in the bottom of the sixth.

In addition to picking up the win, Brian went 2-for-3 with a double and a homer in the Jack Shack win

Brian quickly closed things out in the bottom half of the inning, retiring Kyle and Anthony in order, giving Jack Shack a 4-0 win in game two.

The win put Jack Shack ahead 2-0 in the best-of-five first round series, and one win away from advancing to the Wiffle Series.
