Jon M of Jack Shack Named Pabst Blue Ribbon Wiffler of the Week

Jon M’s swing has become increasingly more dangerous as the first half of the 2024 season has progressed, and his bid for Rookie of the Year has become stronger and stronger as he climbs the league leaders in multiple offensive categories. After another big week to close out the first half, he was voted Wiffler of the Week for week 5 of the 2024 season.

In an 8-7 win over Shady Characters, Jon went 4-for-5 with three singles, a home run, two runs scored, and four RBI.

In an 11-6 loss to Guac Boys, he went 3-for-5 with three home runs, three runs scored, and five RBI.

In total, Jon went 7-for-10 with three singles, four home runs, five runs scored, and nine RBI in week 5.

This is the first time that Jon M has been voted Wiffler of the Week in his wiffle career.

Tom and Thomas Power Shady Characters in 9-2 Win Over Cheap Goats

In the final game of the first half of the 2024 regular season, Tom and Thomas finished the first half like they started, mashing the ball. They combined to go 7-for-8 and drove in seven of Shady Characters’ nine runs, snapping a three game losing streak with a 9-2 win over Cheap Goats.

Lucas started on the mound, and he escaped trouble early. After retiring Joey to start the game, he allowed back-to-back singles to Courtlen and Christian, putting runners on the corners with one out. Lucas retired Dinger, however, stranding both runners, and ending the inning.

Dinger took the mound for Cheap Goats, and he fell behind early. Tom started the bottom of the first with a double, and two batters later, Thomas hit a two-run homer, putting Shady Characters ahead 2-0. Dinger then retired Nate to end the inning.

Kevin led off the top of the second with a double, but Lucas stranded him, retiring Joey and Courtlen to end the inning.

Lucas doubled to start the bottom of the second, and two batters later, Tom hit a one-out single to put runners on the corners, but Shady Characters couldn’t capitalize. Dinger retired Daniel to strand both runners, ending the inning, and the score remained 2-0.

Lucas rolled through the top of the third, retiring Christian and Dinger in order.

Shady Characters extended their lead in the bottom of the third. Thomas singled and moved to second when Nate followed with a single. Two batters later, Dylan hit a one-out RBI double to score Thomas, and Shady Characters led 3-0. Tom cleared the bases with an RBI single, scoring Nate and Dylan, and the lead was pushed to 5-0. Daniel then singled, putting two runners on with one out, but the rally ended there. Dinger retired Thomas to strand two runners, ending the inning, and Cheap Goats trailed by five runs.

Kevin singled to start the top of the fourth, but Lucas stranded another Cheap Goats runner, retiring Joey to end the inning.

Dinger retired Nate and Lucas in order in the bottom of the fourth, and Shady Characters continued to lead 5-0.

Cheap Goats chipped into the lead in the top of the fifth. Christian doubled, and two batters later, Kevin hit an RBI double to score him, putting Cheap Goats on the board, 5-1. Joey then singled, and Kevin scored from first, narrowing the deficit to 5-2. Courtlen followed with a single, putting runners on the corners with one out, but Lucas avoided further damage. He retired Christian to strand both runners, ending the inning, and Shady Characters led by three runs.

Shady Characters made up the lost runs in the bottom of the fifth. Dylan led off the inning with a double, and Tom drove him in with a two-run bomb to right, putting Shady Characters ahead 7-2. Daniel then homered, making the score 8-2. Thomas followed with his second homer of the game, and the back-to-back-to-back homers gave Shady Characters a 9-2 lead. Nate followed with a triple, but Dinger retired Lucas and Dylan to strand him at third, and Cheap Goats trailed by seven runs heading into the sixth.

Lucas remained on the mound to close things out for Shady Characters. After retiring Dinger to start the inning, he allowed a one-out single to Kevin, followed by a double to Joey, putting runners on second and third. Cheap Goats couldn’t rally, however, as Lucas retired Courtlen to strand two runners, ending the inning, and giving Shady Characters a 9-2 victory.

The win moved Shady Characters to 6-4 on the season, and the loss dropped Cheap Goats to 3-7.

Down 6-2 Late, Guac Boys Score Nine Runs in Fifth Inning to Beat Jack Shack 11-6

Guac Boys erupted for nine runs in the bottom of the fifth, capped by Jude’s two-run homer, coming from behind to beat Jack Shack 11-6

Guac Boys trailed 6-2 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning before stringing together nine consecutive hits, with all nine runners scoring, and took an 11-6 lead that they held onto, defeating Jack Shack and finishing the first half of the season with an 8-2 record. Jan and Bohn each went 3-for-4 and combined on the mound to earn the win, as the 2023 runners-up finished the first half of the season atop the league standings.

Bohn started for Guac Boys, and after retiring Josh to start the game, he allowed a solo homer to Jon M, giving Jack Shack a 1-0 lead. Bohn then retired Jon D to end the inning.

Jon M took the mound for Jack Shack, and after retiring Alec to start the bottom of the first, he allowed Jan to double. Bohn then singled, scoring Jan, tying the game at 1-1. Jon M then retired Jude to strand Bohn at first, ending the inning.

Jack Shack reclaimed the lead in the top of the second. Jacob led off the inning with a double, and he moved to third when Josh followed with a double. With no outs and two runners in scoring position, Jon M cleared the bases with a three-run bomb, putting Jack Shack ahead 4-1. Bohn retired the next two batters to end the inning, and he had reached his innings limit for week 5.

Jan entered the game from the Guac Boys’ bullpen in the top of the third, and he was effective, retiring Josh and Jon M in order.

Guac Boys narrowed the lead in the bottom of the third. Alec led off the inning with a triple, and he scored when Jan grounded out for the first out of the inning. Jon M then retired Bohn for the second out, and the score was 4-2.

Jacob doubled with one out in the top of the fourth, but Jan stranded him, retiring Josh for the second out of the inning.

Brum hit a one-out single in the bottom of the fourth, and Tone followed with a single, putting runners on the corners. Jon M escaped damage, however, retiring Alec to strand both runners, ending the inning.

Jon M led off the top of the fifth with a solo homer, his third homer of the game, and Jack Shack led 5-2. Jon D singled, and he moved from first to third when Jacob followed with a single. With no outs and two runners in scoring position, Josh grounded out to right, but Jon D scored on the play, extending the Jack Shack lead to 6-2. Jan retired Jon M to end the inning, and Guac Boys trailed by four runs.

Guac Boys had managed two runs on five hits through four innings, but would score nine runs on nine hits in the bottom of the fifth. Jan led off with a double, and Bohn followed with a two-run homer that cut the Jack Shack lead to 6-4. Jude singled, and Brum also hit a two-run homer, tying the game at 6-6. Tone followed with a solo homer, and the back-to-back jacks gave Guac Boys their first lead of the game, 7-6. Alec then tripled, and Jan drove him in with his second double of the inning, making the score 8-6. Bohn singled, scoring Jan, and Guac Boys led 9-6. Jude became the fourth Guac Boys player to homer in the inning, and the third to hit a two-run homer, putting Guac Boys ahead 11-6. Guac Boys had reached base safely in nine consecutive at-bats to start the bottom of the fifth. Jon M finally snapped the streak, retiring Brum and Tone to end the inning, and Jack Shack were behind by five runs.

Jan made quick work of Jack Shack in the top of the sixth. After allowing a one-out single to Jacob, he retired Josh to strand the runner, ending the inning and the game as Guac Boys had come from behind to win 11-6.

The win moved Guac Boys to 8-2 on the season, and the loss dropped Jack Shack to 3-7.

Guac Boys Score Ten Unanswered Runs to Stomp Cheap Goats 10-3

Guac Boys, led by Alec, scored ten unanswered runs to beat Cheap Goats 10-3, holding their lead atop the EWL season standings

Guac Boys trailed 3-0 in the second inning before scoring ten unanswered runs across the game’s final five innings to beat Cheap Goats 10-3. Bohn was in control on the mound and went 3-for-4 at the plate, Alec also went 3-for-4, and Jan and Tone both homered as Guac Boys maintained their lead atop the EWL season standings.

Bohn fell behind early in the top of the first. Joey led off the game with a double, and he scored when Christian followed with an RBI single, giving Cheap Goats a 1-0 lead. Dinger then singled, putting runners on first and second with no outs. Kevin singled, loading the bases for Joey. Joey then singled, scoring Christian, and the lead was 2-0. Christian singled, scoring Dinger, but Kevin was caught out on the play, ending the inning, and Guac Boys trailed 3-0.

Christian started for Cheap Goats and he rolled through the bottom of the first, retiring Alec and Jan in order.

After a difficult first inning, Bohn was in command starting with the top of the second. He retired Dinger and Kevin consecutively, and the score remained 3-0.

Down three, Guac Boys rallied in the bottom of the second. Bohn singled, and he moved from first to third when Jude followed with a single. Brum then singled, but Bohn was thrown out trying to score on the play. Tone came to the plate with one out and runners on first and second, and he cleared the bases with a three-run shot, tying the game at 3-3. Alec then homered, and his solo shot gave Guac Boys their first lead, 4-3. Christian retired Jan to end the inning, and Cheap Goats trailed by a run.

Bohn continued to pitch effectively in the top of the third. After allowing a leadoff single to Joey, he got Christian to ground out to the mound, and Joey was doubled up on the play, ending the inning.

Christian got Bohn to ground out to right for the first out of the inning, but Alec scored on the play, pushing the Guac Boys lead to 7-3. Christian retired Jude to end the inning, stranding Jan at second, and Guac Boys led by four runs through four innings.

Josh and Jack Shack Stagger Shady Characters and Come from Behind to Win 8-7 with Extra-Innings Walk-Off Homer

Josh’s walk-off solo homer in the bottom of the seventh capped an incredible comeback as Jack Shack stunned Shady Characters 8-7 in extra-innings

In one of the best games of the 2024 season thus far, Jack Shack and Shady Characters went blow-for-blow before Josh hit a walk-off homer to lead off the bottom of the seventh, giving Jack Shack an 8-7 win. Jack Shack led 3-2, then trailed 7-3 before scoring four runs in the bottom of the sixth to force extra innings, and later walked off with a victory. Josh went 4-for-7 with a single, a double, two homers, three runs scored and two RBI, and Jon M went 5-for-6 with four singles, a home run, two runs scored, and four RBI, as Shady Characters dropped their third consecutive game.

Jon D started on the mound for Jack Shack, and after allowing a leadoff double to Tom, he stranded him, retiring Daniel and Thomas to end the inning.

Tom took the mound for Shady Characters and he retired Josh and Jon M in order in the bottom of the first.

Jon D retired Dylan, making his first appearance of the 2024 season, to start the top of the second. Nate hit a one-out single, and he moved from first to third when Lucas followed with a single. Tom then singled, scoring Nate, and Shady Characters led 1-0. Daniel also singled, scoring Lucas, and the lead was 2-0. Shady Characters had runners on the corners with one out, but Jon avoided further damage, retiring Thomas to strand both runners, ending the inning.

Jack Shack continued to have two runners on, but Tom escaped further damage, retiring Jon D to strand Josh and Jon M, ending the inning.

Nate singled with one out in the top of the third, but Jon D stranded him, striking out Lucas to end the inning.

Jack Shack took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the third. Tom retired Jacob to start the inning, but Josh followed with a solo homer, tying the game at 2-2. The next batter, Jon M, launched a homer to deep left-center, and the back-to-back homers gave Jack Shack a 3-2 lead. Tom retired Jon D to end the inning, and Shady Characters trailed by a run.

Tom started the top of the fourth with a double, and after moving to third on Daniel’s sacrifice fly, he scored when Thomas hit a one-out RBI double. Jon D struck out Dylan to end the inning, and the game was tied at 3-3.

Tom rolled through the bottom of the fourth, retiring Jacob and Josh in order.

Shady Characters pulled ahead again in the top of the fifth when Nate led off the inning with a solo homer, making the score 4-3. Jon D retired Lucas and Tom to end the inning, and Jack Shack were behind by a run.

Jon M led off the bottom of the fourth with a single, and after Jon D struck out for the first out of the inning, Jacob doubled to put two runners in scoring position. Tom once again stranded Jack Shack runners, however, retiring Josh to end the inning.

Shady Characters opened up a bigger lead in the top of the sixth. Daniel and Thomas each singled to start the inning, and Dylan cleared the bases with his first hit of the 2024 season, a three-run homer than put Shady Characters in front 7-3. Jon D retired Nate and Lucas to end the inning, and Jack Shack trailed by four runs heading into the bottom of the sixth.

Jon M started the bottom of the sixth with a single, and he moved from first to third when Jon D followed with a double. Jacob cleared the bases with an RBI triple, scoring both runs and cutting the deficit to 7-5. Josh then doubled, putting runners on second and third with no outs. Jon M came to the plate with the tying runs on base, and he emptied them with an RBI single that scored Jacob and Josh, tying the game at 7-7. The winning run was on first with no outs, and Jack Shack had all of the momentum, but Tom buckled down. He retired Jon D and Jacob to strand the runner at first, ending the inning and sending the game to extra innings.

The go-ahead run was on third base, but Shady Characters couldn’t capitalize. Jon retired Dylan to strand both runners, ending the inning, and the game remained tied 7-7.

Jack Shack had stunned Shady Characters with four runs in the bottom of the sixth to force extras, and the knockout blow came right away in the bottom of the seventh. Josh led off the inning with a deep blast to right field, a walk-off homer that gave Jack Shack an incredible 8-7 win.

The win moved Jack Shack to 3-6 on the season, and the loss dropped Shady Characters to 5-4.
