Cookies & Cream stole a win from Eastbound & Dahn as Joey’s walk-off inside-the-park homer in the bottom of the sixth put them ahead

Cookies & Cream trailed 2-1 and were down to their final out when a throwing error led to Joey’s walk-off inside-the-park homer, which gave them a stunning 3-2 win over Eastbound & Dahn.

Back from a week off, Dinger started on the mound for Cookies & Cream and continued to pitch well, as he has all season. After giving up a one-out single to Hartley, he retired Ivan to end the top of the first.

Cookies & Cream took an early lead in the bottom of the first. With one out, Joey doubled, and scored when the next batter Blose, playing for the first time in 2013, singled. Joey raced home from second, putting Cookies & Cream up 1-0. The next batter, Vassallo, also singled, putting runners on the corners with one out. But Ivan, starting on the mound for Eastbound, retired Dinger to end the inning, stranding both runners.

Dinger rolled through the top of the second in order, and Ivan did the same, pitching a scoreless bottom of the second.

Eastbound continued to struggle at the plate in the top of the third, going hitless as the side was retired in order. Vassallo led off the bottom of the third with a single, but didn’t move past first, as Ivan retired Dinger and Joey to end the inning.

After cruising through the first three innings, Dinger found himself in trouble in the top of the fourth. Hartley led off the inning with a singled, and Ivan followed with another single, putting runners on first and second with no outs. Mark singled to right with the help of a fielding error, and Hartley raced home to tie the game at 1-1. Dinger retired Hartley for the first out of the inning, but the runners advanced, putting men on the corners with one out. Ivan roped a double, scoring a run and giving Eastbound & Dahn a 2-1 lead. Mark grounded out to center for the second out of the inning, but Eastbound had bounced back for a one-run lead.

Ivan held the lead in the bottom of the fourth. Vassallo singled with one out, but was stranded at first when Dinger grounded out to left for the second out of the inning.

Hartley singled to lead off the top of the fifth, but didn’t advance past first, as Dinger retired Ivan and Mark to end the inning. Ivan rolled through the bottom of the fifth, pitching a perfect frame.

Hartley led off the top of the sixth with a double, his fourth hit of the game, but Dinger was able to avoid further damage, retiring the next two batter to strand the runner at second.

Vassallo led off the bottom of the sixth with a single, his fourth hit in as many at-bats, and Cookies & Cream had the tying runner on base. Dinger grounded out to left for the first out of the inning, but advanced the tying runner into scoring position. Down to their final out, Joey hit the ball to deep left-center. Vassallo raced around to score to tie the game, and Joey raced around the bases to second. But Eastbound & Dahn made a critical throwing error, allowing Joey to continue around the bases all the way to home for an inside-the-park home run. The two-run homer put Cookies & Cream ahead 3-2 for the win, as Eastbound & Dahn lost in shocking fashion.

The win moved Cookies & Cream to 5-2 on the season. Eastbound & Dahn dropped to 2-5 with the loss.
