Josh K and Ryan Pitch Three-Hitter and Sean Powers Guacamol-yay to 6-1 Win over Shady Characters

Sean had his second consecutive monster game at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a triple, two home runs, and five RBI to lead Guacamol-yay

Josh K continued his hot hand on the mound, and Sean continued to swing a big bat as Guacamol-yay rolled past Shady Characters 6-1. Guacamol-yay held Shady Characters to only one run on three hits, and Sean went 3-for-4 with a triple, two home runs, and five RBI in the win. Guacamol-yay moved to .500 on the season and into a tie for second place with Cheap Goats.

Josh K struck out the first batter he faced, Dylan, and retired Sam to send the side down in order in the top of the first.

Shady Characters’ starter, Sam, matched him in the bottom of the first, retiring Eli and Josh K consecutively.

Bard, filling in for a depleted Shady Characters roster, singled with one out in the top of the second. But Josh K stranded him, retiring Dylan to end the inning.

Guacamol-yay took the lead in the bottom of the second. Sean led off the inning with a solo homer to right, and the score was 1-0. Jude singled, and two batters later, Eli singled, scoring Jude to put Guacamol-yay ahead 2-0. Josh K then singled, putting runners on the corners with one out. But Sam avoided further damage, getting Sean to fly out to the mound to strand both runners and end the inning.

Josh K continued to pitch effectively in the top of the third. He struck out Sam, and after allowing a one-out single to Lucas, struck out Bard. It was the first time a pitcher had struck out the side since Christian had in 2018.

Guacamol-yay extended their lead in the bottom of the third. Ryan singled with one out, and Eli followed with a single to put two runners on. Josh K then singled, loading the bases for Sean, who had been unstoppable in week 6 to this point. He had a grand slam opportunity, and he almost came through. He hit a liner off the fence, which resulted in a bases-clearing triple that put Guacamol-yay in front 5-0. Jude followed with a double, but could not advance the runner on the play. Guacamol-yay had two runners in scoring position, but Sam got Ryan to ground out to left, stranding both runners, and Shady Characters trailed by five.

Josh K once again cruised through an inning, retiring Dylan and Sam in order in the top of the fourth.

Shady Characters turned to Lucas on the mound in the bottom of the fourth. He retired Eli and Josh K in order, and the score remained 5-0.

Guacamol-yay also turned to the bullpen, bringing Ryan in to replace Josh K in the top of the fifth. He sent Lucas and Bard down in order.

Sam is beaned

Guacamol-yay added one last insurance run in the bottom of the fifth when Sean led off the inning with a solo homer, his second of the game and fourth of the week. Lucas retired Jude and Ryan to end the inning, and Guacamol-yay led 6-0 heading into the sixth.

Dylan’s triple in the sixth inning led to Shady Characters’ only run in the game.

Dylan tripled to start the top of the sixth, and Shady Characters finally got on the board when Sam hit a sacrifice fly, allowing Dylan to tag and score. Shady Characters had narrowed the deficit to five runs, but the rally wouldn’t last long. Ryan retired Lucas for the second out of the inning, ending the game and giving Guacamol-yay a 6-1 win.

The win moved Guacamol-yay to 6-6 on the season, surpassing their season win total from their inaugural season in 2019, and the loss dropped Shady Characters to 5-7.

Josh K and Jude Combine for Pitching Gem as Guacamol-yay Blitz Cheap Goats 13-1

Josh K and Jude combined to allow only one run on four hits, and the Guacamol-yay offense exploded for thirteen runs in a win over Cheap Goats that was never close. The Guacamol-yay pitchers were in command, and all five Guacamol-yay players had at least three hits each. Sean lead Guacamol-yay, going 4-for-6 with two singles, two home runs, and five RBI, and Eli, making his EWL debut, went 4-for-6 with three doubles, a triple, and five RBI.

Cheap Goats got on the board immediately in the top of the first. Joey led off the game with a triple, and he scored when Jordan grounded out to left for the first out of the inning, putting Cheap Goats ahead 1-0. It would be the only run Cheap Goats scored. Josh K retired Christian to end the inning, and he would get all the run support that he needed in the bottom of the first.

Josh K singled with one out in the bottom of the first, and Sean followed with a two-run blast, putting Guacamol-yay ahead 2-1. Christian, the Cheap Goats starter, retired Jude to end the inning.

Dinger led off the top of the second with a single, but Cheap Goats couldn’t advance him. Josh K retired Joey and Jordan consecutively, stranding the runner and ending the inning.

Ryan snags a fly ball for an out in right field

Guacamol-yay busted the game open in the bottom of the second. Ryan led off with a double, and Eli drove him in with an RBI double that made the score 3-1. Josh K then doubled, scoring Eli, and the Guacamol-yay lead was extended to 4-1. Sean then hit his second two-run homer of the game, putting Guacamol-yay ahead 6-1. Jude and Ryan both singled, butting two runners on with no outs, and Eli cleared the bases with an RBI triple, making the score 8-1. Christian finally escaped the inning, retiring Josh K and Sean, and Guacamol-yay led by seven.

Christian started the top of the third with a double, but Josh K stranded another Cheap Goats base runner in scoring position. He retired Dinger and Joey, and the score remained 8-1.

Jude led off the bottom of the third with a double, and two batters later, Eli hit an RBI double to score him, pushing the score to 9-1. Christian then retired Josh K to end the inning.

Jordan started the top of the fourth with a double, the third consecutive inning that Cheap Goats started with a hit. But for the third consecutive inning, Josh K stranded a Cheap Goats runner. He fanned Christian for the first out, and then got Dinger to fly out to center, ending the inning.

Gucamol-yay put the game away with another rally int he bottom of the fourth. Sean singled and moved from first to third when Jude singled. Two batters later, Eli hit an RBI double that scored Sean, making the score 10-1. Josh K then singled, clearing the bases, and the two RBI hit put Guacamol-yay on top 12-1. Sean then singled for the second time in the inning, scoring Josh K, and the lead was 13-1. Christian retired Jude to end the inning, and Cheap Goats trailed by twelve.

Gucamol-yay turned to the bullpen, bringing Jude to the mound. He cruised through the top of the fifth, sending Joey and Jordan down in order.

Ryan singled to start the bottom of the fifth, and two batters later, Josh K hit a one-out single to put runners on the corners. Christian got out of this one, getting Sean to fly out to left, stranding two runners and ending the inning.

Eli, making his EWL debut, went 4-for-6 with three doubles, a triple, and five RBI

Cheap Goats would need a huge rally in the top of the sixth, but they went quickly. Jude retired Christian and Dinger, ending the game and giving Guacamol-yay a 13-1 win.

The win moved Guacamol-yay to 5-6 on the season, and the loss dropped Cheap Goats to 5-6.

Turbo and Brian Lead Jack Shack to 6-4 Win Over Shady Characters

Turbo and Brian each went 3-for-5 with homers, and Brian pitched the complete game win, as Jack Shack maintained control of first place in the EWL standings

Jack Shack and Shady Characters played five and a half innings one week, before being rained out, and finished the last half inning of their week 6 matchup a week later, with Jack Shack closing things out for a 6-4 win. Turbo went 3-for-5 with a single, a triple, and a homer, and Brian went 3-for-6 with a home run and also pitched the complete game win for Jack Shack.

Jack Shack took an early lead in the top of the first. Turbo singled, and two batters later, Brian hit an inside-the-park homer, scoring two runs to put Jack Shack ahead 2-0. Shady Characters’ starter, Sam, then retired Doc to end the inning.

Jack Shack looked as if they’d extend their lead in the top of the second, but Sam escaped a jam. Turbo led off the inning with a triple, and Dustin followed with a single to put runners on the corners with no outs. But Jack Shack couldn’t capitalize. Sam retired Brian and Doc, who both flew out to right field, stranding both runners, and the score remained 2-0.

Brian cruised once again in the bottom of the second, sending Sam and Lucas down consecutively.

Turbo led off the top of the third with a solo homer, extending the Jack Shack lead to 3-0. Sam avoided further damage, retiring Dustin and Brian to end the inning.

Shady Characters came alive in the bottom of the third. Brad led off with a triple, and Dylan drove him in with an RBI triple that made the score 3-1. Mike followed with a two run shot, and Shady Characters had tied the game at 3-3. Sam then singled, and Lucas followed with a single, putting runners on first and second with no outs, and the first five hitters of the inning had reached base safely. Brian buckled down, however, and got out of trouble. He retired Brad and Dylan, stranding two runners, and the score remained tied at 3-3.

Dylan’s RBI triple got Shady Characters on the board in the bottom of the third

Sam retired Doc and Turbo in order in the top of the fourth, and Shady Characters would take the lead in the bottom half of the inning.

With one out, Sam provided his own run support, hitting a solo homer to right-center, which put Shady Characters ahead 4-3. Brian retired Lucas to end the inning, and Jack Shack trailed for the first time in the game.

Jack Shack bounced right back, reclaiming the lead in the top of the fifth. Dustin led off with a double, and he moved to third when Brian followed with a single. With two on and no outs, Doc hit a three-run homer, putting Jack Shack ahead 6-4. Blaine followed with a single, but when Turbo flew out to left, Blaine was doubled up, ending the inning.

Mike doubled with one out in the bottom of the fifth, putting the tying run at the plate, but Shady Characters couldn’t cut into the Jack Shack lead. Brian retired Sam to strand the runner, ending the inning.

Brian singled with one out in the top of the sixth, but Sam stranded him, retiring Doc to end the inning.

Brian connects on one of his two singles. He also had a two-run homer in the first inning.

Shady Characters trailed by two run heading into their final at-bat. Brian remained on the mound to close things out, and he retired the first batter he faced, Lucas. One out away from victory, the rain became too heavy, and week six games were postponed from August 4th to August 11th.

A week later, play resumed with sunshine on the Wiffle Diamond. The conclusion to the game was brief. Brian returned to the mound, and he retired Dylan, who grounded out to left, ending the game and giving Jack Shack a 6-4 victory.

The win moved Jack Shack to 7-4 on the season, and the loss dropped Shady Characters to 5-6.

Brian of Jack Shack Voted Pabst Blue Ribbon Wiffler of the Week for Week 5

Brian went 5-for-7 with two home runs, pitched the first shutout of 2020, and led Jack Shack to two wins in week 5, and was named Pabst Blue Ribbon Wiffler of the Week.

In a narrow vote split between Brian of Jack Shack and Jude of Guacamol-yay, Brian was named PBR Wiffler of the Week for week 5 of the 2020 EWL season.

Brian was strong at the plate and on the mound, leading Jack Shack to two wins in week 5. He helped Jack Shack finish the first half of the season strong, and despite missing 2019 Wiffle Series co-MVP Adam for multiple games due to injury, the defending champs were in sole possession of first place in the EWL standings at the midway point of the regular season.

Brian outmatched Christian in a pitcher’s duel in Jack Shack’s 3-0 win over Cheap Goats. Brian pitched a five-hit shutout, the first of his career and the first of the 2020 EWL season. He also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, a home run, and two RBI, providing himself enough run support for the win.

In a 4-3 win over Guacamol-yay, Brian went 3-for-4 with a single, triple, home run, and two RBI.

In total for the week, Brian went 5-for-7 with a single, a double, a triple, two home runs, three runs scored, and four RBI.

This is Brian’s second career Wiffler of the Week honor. He was also named Wiffler of the Week for week 3 of the 2019 season.

Jack Shack Take Control of First Place in Standings with 4-3 Win Over Guacamol-yay

Brian went 3-for-4 with a single, a triple, a home run, and two RBI to lead Jack Shack.

2019 EWL Wiffle Series Champions, Jack Shack, climbed to first place in the EWL standings for the first time in 2020 with a win over Guacamol-yay, the last game of the first half of the 2020 EWL season. Jack Shack led 4-0 midway through the game, and Jack Shack starter, Dustin, held off a late Guacamol-yay rally to win 4-3, moving them to 6-4 on the season in sole possession of first place. Dustin pitched the complete game win, and Brian went 3-for-4 with a single, a triple, and a home run to lead Jack Shack in victory. The defending champs will head into the second half of the season with a one game lead on the team they beat in last year’s Wiffle Series, Shady Characters, and Cheap Goats.

Josh K took the mound for Guacamol-yay, and the first batter he faced, Brian, hit a leadoff homer, putting Jack Shack ahead 1-0 immediately. Turbo followed with a single, but Josh K limited the damage, retiring Dustin and Blaine to strand Turbo, ending the inning.

Jack Shack extended their lead in the top of the second. John, making his 2020 EWL debut, singled to start the inning. Two batters later, Brian hit a one-out triple, scoring John to make the score 2-0. Turbo then singled, scoring Brian, and Jack Shack led 3-0. Dustin grounded out to right to end the inning, and Jack Shack had pulled ahead by three.

Jude singled to start the bottom of the second, but Guacamol-yay couldn’t plate a run. Dustin retired Ryan and Jan, stranding the runner and ending the inning.

Blaine singled to start the top of the third, but he was caught attempting to extend the hit for the first out of the inning. Josh K then retired Josh to end the inning.

Dustin continued to pitch effectively in the bottom of the third, sending Josh K and Jude down consecutively, and the score remained 3-0.

Doc led off the top of the fourth with a double, and he moved to third when Brian followed with a single. With no outs and runners on the corners, Turbo grounded out to center, scoring Doc on the play. Josh K then got Dustin to fly out to left, and Jack Shack led 4-0.

Jan singled with one out in the bottom of the fourth, but Dustin stranded another Guacamol-yay runner. He retired Josh K, ending the inning, and maintaining the four run lead.

Josh K got back into somewhat of a groove in the top of the fifth. He retired Blaine and John consecutively, and he would get some run support in the bottom of the fifth.

Down 4-0, Guacamol-yay started a rally when Jude led off the bottom of the fifth with a solo shot to right, and the score was 4-1. Ryan followed with a triple, and when Jan grounded out for the first out of the inning, Ryan scored. Dustin then retired Josh K to end the inning, and Guacamol-yay had narrowed the deficit to 4-2.

Dustin remained on the mound despite Gucamol-yay starting the sixth with three consecutive hits and threatening to tie or win the game with no outs. But things came together for Jack Shack when Josh K came to the plate and flew out to Dustin along the third base line. Dustin doubled up Ryan on the play, ending the inning and the game, stranding both runners and giving Jack Shack the 4-3 win.

The win moved Jack Shack to 6-4 on the season, and the loss dropped Guacamol-yay to 4-6.
