Kyle Outslugs Jason to Lead Guacamol-yay to 4-3 Win Over Shady Characters

25 Jul

In what was essentially a one-on-one contest, or as much of a one-on-one contest as can happen in the EWL, Kyle had one more homer than Jason, and it was the difference in a tightly fought game between Guacamol-yay and Shady Characters. Kyle went 3-for-3 with three home runs, three runs scored, and four RBI, contributing three of the four Guacamol-yay hits in the win. Jason went 3-for-4 with a double, two homers, and scored all three of Shady Characters runs in the 4-3 loss.

Josh K took the mound for Guacamol-yay, and after allowing a one-out single to Mike in the top of the first, he retired Tom K to strand him, ending the inning.

Tom K started for Guacamol-yay, and he fell behind early. With one out in the bottom of the first, Kyle hit a solo homer, giving Guacamol-yay a 1-0 lead. Tom then retired Josh K to end the inning.

Shady Characters tied things up in the top of the second. Jason led off with a double, and he moved to third when Lucas followed with a single. With no outs and runners on the corners, Dylan grounded out to right for the first out of the inning, but Jason scored on the play, tying the game at 1-1. Josh then retired Mike to strand Lucas at second, ending the inning.

Tom rolled through the bottom of the second, retiring Jude and Jan in order.

Shady Characters pulled ahead in the top of the third. With one out, Jason launched a blast to right-center, and the solo shot put Shady Characters in front 2-1. Josh then retired Lucas to end the inning.

Kyle and Guacamol-yay evened up in the bottom of the third. With one out, Kyle hit his second solo homer of the game, tying the score at 2-2. Tom then retired Josh to end the inning.

Josh escaped a jam in the top of the fourth. After allowing a leadoff double to Dylan, Josh gave up a double to Mike. Dylan raced home on the play, but was gunned down by Jude for the first out of the inning. Josh then retired Tom to strand Mike at second, ending the inning.

Tom cruised through the bottom of the fourth, retiring Jude and Jan consecutively, and the score remained 2-2 through four innings.

Shady Characters pulled ahead in the top of the fifth. Jason led off the inning with a solo homer, his second of the game, giving Shady Characters a 3-2 lead. Lucas followed with a single, but Josh stranded him, retiring Dylan and Mike to end the inning.

Down 3-2, Guacamol-yay rallied in the bottom of the fifth. Ryan led off with a single, and Kyle followed with his third homer in as many at-bats, a three-run shot that put Guacamol-yay ahead 4-3. Tom retired JOsh and Jude to end the inning, and Shady Characters were down by a run heading into the sixth.

Josh remained on the mound to close things out for Guacamol-yay, and he made quick work of Shady Characters in the top of the sixth. He retired Tom, and then faced Jason with the game on the line. Jason had went 3-for-3 and toe-to-toe with Kyle and Guacamol-yay, but rather than walking him, Guacamol-yay pitched to him. The strategy worked, as Jason was retired for the first time in the game, ending the game and giving Guacamol-yay a 4-3 win.

The win moved Guacamol-yay to 6-11 on the season, and the loss dropped Shady Characters to 12-5.

W: Josh K (2-4)
