Jason Ties Home Run Record with Five Bombs as Shady Characters Destroy Cheap Goats 20-12

Dinger delivers a pitch to Jason, who tied the single-game EWL record for home runs, with five, in Shady Characters 20-12 victory over Cheap Goats

In a game that scored more like a football game than baseball, Jason tied the single-game home run record for the second time this season, swatting five round-trippers in a blowout win for Shady Characters. Nate also continued his stellar year, reaching base safely seven times, and Mike also had seven hits including three homers. Joey went deep four times and Christian had three home runs in the Cheap Goats loss.

With their ace Tom out for the week, Shady Characters started Lucas on the mound, and the first batter he faced, Joey, hit a leadoff homer, giving Cheap Goats a 1-0 lead. Two batters later, Christian homered, and Cheap Goats led 2-0. Dinger followed with a home run, which made the score 3-0, before Joey hit his second homer of the inning, extending the lead to 4-0. Miller then homered, and the back-to-back-to-back-to-back homers included every player in the Cheap Goats lineup, making the score 5-0. Lucas finally escaped the inning, retiring Christian for the second out.

Christian went 4-for-6 with a double, three homers, three runs scored, and four RBI in the Cheap Goats loss.

Christian took the mound for Cheap Goats, and the first batter he faced, Nate, led off the bottom of the first with a homer, cutting the score to 5-1. Mike followed with a single, but Christian stranded him, retiring Jason and Lucas to end the inning, and Cheap Goats led by four runs.

Lucas retired Dinger to start the top of the second, but the next batter, Joey, hit his third homer in as many at-bats, a solo shot that put Cheap Goats in front 6-1. Lucas then retired Miller to end the inning.

Shady Characters trailed by five runs, but they would fight back in the bottom of the second with a huge inning, taking the lead for good. Nate led off the inning with a double and moved to third when Mike followed with a single. Jason cleared the bases with a three-run shot to right-center, narrowing the Cheap Goats lead to 6-4. Two batters later, Nate hit a solo homer, and Shady Characters trailed 6-5. Mike then homered, tying the game, and Jason followed with his second home run of the inning, putting Shady Characters ahead 7-6. Lucas then homered, and just as Cheap Goats did in the first, Shady Characters went back-to-back-to-back-to-back with all four members of their lineup going deep consecutively, and they led 8-6. At this point Cheap Goats turned to their bullpen, bringing Dinger to the mound to relieve Christian. The first batter he faced, Nate, singled, and Mike drove him in with an RBI single that extended the lead to 9-6. Jason then singled, putting runners on the corners, but Dinger avoided further damage, retiring Lucas for the second out of the inning. Shady Characters had put eight runs on the board in the bottom of the second, taking a 9-6 lead.

Mike went 7-for-9 with three singles, a double, three home runs, five runs scored, and five RBI.

Shady Characters also turned to the bullpen in the top of the third, bringing Jason to the mound for a rare pitching appearance. He retired the first two batters he faced, Christian and Dinger.

Dinger retired Nate to start the bottom of the third, but Mike followed with his second homer of the game, making the score 10-6. Jason then homered for the third time, and the back-to-back jacks gave Shady Characters an 11-6 lead. Dinger retired Lucas to end the inning, and Cheap Goats were behind by five runs.

Jason continued to roll in the top of the fourth, sending Joey and Miller down in order.

Shady Characters continued to extend their lead in the bottom of the fourth. Nate singled, and Mike followed with a double to put two runners in scoring position with no outs. For the second time in the game, Jason launched a three-run bomb, and Shady Characters led 14-6. Cheap Goats removed Dinger from the mound and returned Christian to it. He retired Lucas, allowed a one-out single to Nate, and then retired Mike to end the inning with his team down by eight runs.

Cheap Goats showed some life in the top of the fifth. Christian led off the inning with a solo homer, his second of the game, cutting the score to 14-7. Two batters later, Joey tied his season best by hitting his fourth homer, which made the score 14-8. Jason then retired Miller to end the inning.

Shady Characters piled on in the bottom of the fifth, putting a game that was already out of reach completely to bed. Jason doubled to start the inning, and Lucas drove him in with an RBI single, making the score 15-8. Two batters later, Mike hit a two-run homer, and Shady Characters led 17-8. Jason came to the plate one homer shy of tying the single-game record for the second time this season, and he did exactly that, launching his fifth bomb of the game, putting Shady Characters in front 18-8. Lucas then homered, and Shady Characters led 19-8. Cheap Goats removed Christian from the mound for the second time in the game, bringing Joey to the mound for his first pitching appearance of the season. The first batter he faced, Nate, crushed a homer to right field, and Shady Characters had hit four consecutive home runs for the second time in the contest. Joey retired Mike to end the inning, and Shady Characters had scored six more runs to take a 20-8 lead heading into the sixth inning.

Nate continued his strong sophomore season, going 7-for-9 with two singles, two doubles, three home runs, six runs scored, and three RBI in the Shady Characters blowout win.

Down twelve, Cheap Goats were in a big hole. Christian led off the top of the sixth with his third homer of the game, and the solo shot made the score 20-9. Dinger singled, and Joey followed with a double to put runners on second and third. Miller then singled, scoring Dinger, and Cheap Goats trailed 20-10. Christian followed with a double, scoring Joey, and the score was 20-11. Jason retired Dinger for the first out of the inning, but Miller scored on the play, and Cheap Goats trailed 20-12. The rally would end there. Jason retired Joey to strand Christian at third, ending the inning and the game, and giving Shady Characters a 20-12 win.

The win moved Shady Characters to 11-3 on the year, and Cheap Goats dropped to 6-8.
