Brett went a perfect 4-for-4 with a single, two triples, a homer, three runs scored, and an intentional walk, as Cheap Goats beat Shady Characters in a slugfest
One of the most hard fought games of the 2021 season ended with one of the most exciting finishes, as Christian rumbled and bumbled around the bases for an electric inside-the-park homer in the top of the seventh, and Cheap Goats held on to beat Shady Characters 9-8. Mike and Brett, the top two 2021 MVP candidates, battled throughout the game, as Brett went 4-for-4 with an intentional walk, and Mike went 5-for-5 with an intentional walk. Cheap Goats blew an early lead only to steal the victory in dramatic fashion in extra-innings.
Tom K took the mound for Shady Characters, and he got beat up early. Brett led off the game with a triple, and Joey followed with an RBI single, making the score 1-0. Miller then doubled, putting runners on second and third with no outs. Jordan cleared the bases with an RBI triple, and Cheap Goats led 3-0. Tom buckled down and avoided further damage, retiring Christian and Dinger to strand Jordan at third, ending the inning.
Mike continued to put up big numbers for Shady Characters, going 5-for-5 with two singles, a double, two homers, four runs scored, three RBI, and an intentional walk
Shady Characters made up some of the difference in the bottom of the first. Christian retired Dylan to start the game, and then allowed a solo homer to Mike, making the score 3-1. Tom then doubled, and Jason drove him in with an RBI double, cutting the deficit to 3-2. Christian then retired Lucas to strand Jason at second, ending the inning.
Cheap Goats took a big lead in the top of the second. Brett singled, and Joey drove him in with an RBI triple, putting Cheap Goats in front 4-2. Miller then doubled, scoring Joey, and the lead was 5-2. Jordan then hit a two-run bomb to right-center, and Cheap Goats led 7-2. Tom then retired Christian and Dinger to end the inning.

Shady Characters continued to fight in the bottom of the second. Mike singled with one out, and Tom drove him in with a two-run blast, cutting the score to 7-4. Jason singled, but Christian stranded him, retiring Lucas to end the inning.
Tom had reached his innings limit for the week, and Lucas came to the mound in relief. The first batter he faced, Brett, crushed a solo homer to right, and Cheap Goats led 8-4. Lucas then allowed a single to Joey, but when Miller grounded out to center, Joey was doubled up, ending the inning.
Christian retired Dylan to start the bottom of the third, but the next batter he faced, Mike, hit his second homer of the game, and the solo shot cut the score to 8-5. Christian then retired Tom to end the inning.

Lucas rolled through the top of the fourth, retiring Jordan and Christian in order.
Christian allowed a leadoff single to Jason to start the bottom of the fourth. After retiring Lucas for the first out, Christian gave up a double to Dylan. Jason tried to score from first on the play, but was gunned down by Miller, ending the inning.
Lucas allowed a one-out triple to Brett in the top of the fifth, but stranded him retiring Joey to end the inning.
Cheap Goats turned to the bullpen, bringing Miller to the mound, and Shady Characters pulled closer in the bottom of the fifth. Mike singled, and two batters later, Jason hit a two-run homer to right, making the score 8-7. Miller then retired Lucas to end the inning.
Lucas cruised through the top of the sixth, retiring Miller and Jordan in order, and Shady Characters trailed by a run heading into their final at-bat.
Christian returned to the mound to face Dylan in the bottom of the sixth, and Dylan doubled. Cheap Goats then put Miller back on the mound. He allowed a double to Mike, which drove in Dylan, tying the game at 8-8. Miller then retired Tom K for the first out of the inning. Cheap Goats elected to intentionally walk Jason, which left the winning run on second, a runner on first, and one out, for Lucas. The move paid off, as Miller retired Lucas, stranding both runners and ending the inning.

With the game in extras, Lucas remained on the mound for Shady Characters. The first batter he faced, Christian, hit a line drive to right-center. After a series of throwing errors, Christian raced around the bases, testing the Shady Characters defense as he ran toward home. The throw narrowly missed him, and his inside-the-park homer put Cheap Goats in front 9-8. Lucas retired Dinger, and then intentionally walked Brett to face Joey. The strategy worked, as Lucas retired Joey to end the inning, stranding Brett at first.
With a one-run lead, Miller was on the mound to close things out for Cheap Goats. He retired the first batter he faced, Dylan. Cheap Goats then walked Mike, who was 5-for-5, to get to Tom. Once again, the intentional walk worked, as Miller retired Tom to end the inning and the game, giving Cheap Goats the 9-8 victory.
The win moved Cheap Goats to 9-9 on the season, and the loss dropped Shady Characters to 12-6.
