Jude and Brum celebrate at the plate after Jude’s two-run homer in the fourth, which turned out to be the decisive hit in the Guac Boys upset win

Shady Characters were the first team in the thirteen year history of the EWL to start the season 10-0, and they did so in dominant fashion, crushing most of their opponents. After a perfect start to the 2022 season, they shockingly lost their first game of the second half of the season, dropping their eleventh game 5-4 to the Guac Boys. Anthony and Alec each had three hits, Jude went deep, and Brum pitched the complete game win, as the Guac Boys gave Shady Characters their first mark in the loss column this season.

Shady Characters started the second half of the 2022 how they ended the first half; Dylan led off the game with a solo homer, and his squad led 1-0. The Guac Boys starter, Brum, then retired Mike and Tom to end the inning.

The Guac Boys bounced back in the bottom of the second. Anthony led off with a single, and he moved from first to third when Jude followed with a single. Shady Characters starter, Tom, got Brum to ground out for the first out of the inning, but Anthony scored on the play, tying the game at 1-1. Alec then singled, scoring Jude, and the Guac Boys led 2-1. Anthony followed with his second single of the inning, but Tom avoided further damage, retiring Jude to strand two runners, ending the inning.

Jason led off the top of the second with a double, and he moved to third when Lucas followed with a single. Shady Characters had two runners in scoring position with no outs, but Brum got out of the jam. He retired Nate and Dylan, stranding both runners, and the Guac Boys maintained a 2-1 lead.

Tom rolled through the bottom of the second, retiring Brum and Alec in order.

Brum matched him in the top of the third, sending Mike and Tom down consecutively.

Brum, who pitched the complete game win, and Alec, who went 3-for-4, converge on a fly ball in shallow right field.

Tom once again cruised in the bottom of the third, retiring Anthony and Jude, and Shady Characters continued to trail by a run.

Jason led off the top of the fourth with a solo shot to deep right, tying the game at 2-2. Two batters later, Nate hit a one-out single, and Dylan followed with his second bomb of the game, this one a two-run shot that put Shady Characters in front 4-2. Mike followed with a double, but Brum avoided a disastrous inning, retiring Tom to strand the runner at second, ending the inning.

Down two runs, the Guac Boys immediately responded in the bottom of the fourth. Alec doubled with one out, and he scored from second when Anthony followed with an RBI single, cutting the deficit to 4-3. Jude followed with a two-run shot, putting the Guac Boys in front 5-4. Tom then retired Brum to end the inning, and the Guac Boys had reclaimed a one-run lead.

Anthony went 3-for-5 with three singles, a run scored, and an RBI in the Guac Boys win.

Jason singled to start the top of the fifth, and Lucas followed with a single, putting runners on first and third with no outs. Once again, Brum stranded Shady Characters runners. He got Nate to fly out, and Jason was called out trying to tag and score on the play, ending the inning.

Alec singled to start the bottom of the fifth, but Tom stranded him, retiring Anthony and Jude.

For the first time in the 2022 season, Shady Characters started the final inning of a game trailing on the scoreboard. Brum stayed on the mound to close things out, and he did so efficiently. He retired the top of the order, Dylan and Mike, to end the inning and the game, giving the Guac Boys a 5-4 win.

The win moved the Guac Boys to 5-6 on the season, and the loss dropped Shady Characters to 10-1.
