Shady Characters Crush Cheap Goats 10-1

Tom earned his eleventh win of the season on the mound and went 3-for-4 with two singles, a homer, two runs scored, and two RBI in the Shady Characters win.

After losing their first game of the 2022 season, Shady Characters bounced back in a big way, thoroughly defeating Cheap Goats 10-1. Mike, Jason, and Tom each had three hits, and Nate went deep twice as Shady Characters jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. 

Tom started for Shady Characters, and he rolled through the top of the first, retiring the side in order. 

Dinger took the mound for Cheap Goats, and he got into trouble early. After retiring Dylan to start the bottom of the first, he gave up five consecutive hits. Mike singled, and Tom followed with a two-run bomb that made the score 2-0. Jason then singled, and he moved from first to third when Lucas followed with a single. Nate emptied the bases with a three-run homer, and Shady Characters led 5-0. Dinger retired Dylan to end the inning, and Cheap Goats found themselves in an early hole.

Nate went 2-for-3 with two homers, two runs scored, and four RBI in the Shady Characters win.

Tom once again rolled in the top of the second, retiring Joey and Christian in order. 

Mike singled to start the bottom of the second, and he moved to second when Tom followed with a single. It looked as if it would be another big inning for Shady Characters, but Dinger escaped. He retired Jason and Lucas to strand both runners, and the score remained 5-0. 

Dinger doubled to start the top of the third, Cheap Goats first hit of the game. Tom buckled down, however, retiring Miller and Joe to strand him at second, ending the inning.

Nate led off the bottom of the third with a solo homer, his second blast of the game, and Shady Characters were in front 6-0. Cheap Goats turned to the bullpen, bringing Miller into the game. He allowed a single to the first batter he faced, Dylan, before retiring Mike and Tom to strand the runner at first, ending the inning.

Lucas entered the game for Shady Characters in the top of the fourth, and he retired the first two batters he faced, Joey and Christian.

Jason tripled to start the bottom of the fourth, and he scored when Lucas grounded out to center for the first out of the inning. Miller retired Nate to end the inning, and Shady Characters led 7-0.

Jason went 3-for-4 with a single, a triple, a home run, three runs scored, and three RBI as Shady Characters bounced back from their first loss of the season with an easy win over Cheap Goats.

Miller singled with one out in the top of the fifth, but Lucas stranded him, retiring Joe and Joey to end the inning, maintaining the seven run lead.

Joey came to the mound in a rare relief appearance in the bottom of the fifth. He retired Dylan, the first batter he faced, and then got hit hard. Mike doubled, and Tom followed with a single, putting runners on first and third. Jason crushed a three-run bomb to deep right, putting Shady Characters ahead 10-0. Joey then retired Lucas to end the inning.

Joey singled to start the top of the sixth, and two batters later, Dinger hit an RBI single to score him from second, ending the shutout bid and cutting the score to 10-1. The rally would end there though, as Lucas retired Miller for the second out of the inning, ending the game and giving Shady Characters a 10-1 win.

The win moved Shady Characters to 11-1 on the season, and the loss dropped Cheap Goats to 3-9.

Austin, Josh, and Adam Power Jack Shack Past Cheap Goats 5-3

Austin went 4-for-5 with two singles, a double, a home run, two runs scored, and two RBI to lead Jack Shack to a 5-3 win.

Adam tripled and homered, Josh had three doubles and pitched the complete game win, and Austin’s two-run homer was the deciding factor in Jack Shack’s 5-3 win over Cheap Goats. The three players had nine of Jack Shack’s ten hits, as Josh held Cheap Goats to only three runs, and Jack Shack started the first half of the 2022 regular season with a win. 

Miller led off the game with a double, but he was caught out trying to extend the hit into a triple for the first out of the inning. Josh then retired Joe to end the inning.

Adam led off the bottom of the first with a homer, the seventh leadoff homer of his career, and Jack Shack led 1-0. Austin followed with a double, but Cheap Goats starter, Christian, retired Josh and Brian to strand Austin at second, ending the inning.

Christian provided his own run support in the top of the second, when he hit a solo homer with one out, tying the score at 1-1. Josh then retired Dinger to end the inning.

Jack Shack got the lead back quickly in the bottom of the second. Austin singled with one out, and he moved from first to third when Josh followed with a double. Brian then doubled, clearing the bases, and Jack Shack led 3-1. Christian retired Adam for the second out of the inning, stranding Brian at second.

Cheap Goats bounced back in the top of the third. Miller led off with a single, and two batters later, Joey hit a two-run bomb to left, tying the game at 3-3. Josh then retired Christian to end the inning.

Josh pitched the complete game win for Jack Shack and went 3-for-5 with three doubles and a run scored.

Josh doubled with one out in the bottom of the third, but Christian stranded him, retiring Brian to end the inning.

Miller singled with one out in the top of the fourth, but Cheap Goats couldn’t advance him, as Josh retired Joe for the second out of the inning.

Adam led off the bottom of the fourth with a triple, and Austin drove him in with a two-run bomb to right, giving Jack Shack a 5-3 lead. Josh followed with his third double of the game, but Christian stranded him, retiring Brian and Adam to end the inning.

Cheap Goats threatened in the top of the fifth, but Josh escaped a jam. Christian doubled with one out, but when Dinger followed with a single, Christian was caught trying to score, ending the inning. 

Austin singled to start the bottom of the fifth, but Christian struck out Josh and retired Brian, stranding him at first.

Down to their final at-bat, Cheap Goats went quietly and quickly in the sixth. Josh retired Miller and Joe in order, ending the inning and the game, giving Jack Shack a 5-3 win.

The win moved Jack Shack to 4-7 on the season, and the loss dropped Cheap Goats to 3-8.

Guac Boys Stun Shady Characters 5-4 to Deliver Defending Champs First Defeat of 2022 Season

Shady Characters were the first team in the thirteen year history of the EWL to start the season 10-0, and they did so in dominant fashion, crushing most of their opponents. After a perfect start to the 2022 season, they shockingly lost their first game of the second half of the season, dropping their eleventh game 5-4 to the Guac Boys. Anthony and Alec each had three hits, Jude went deep, and Brum pitched the complete game win, as the Guac Boys gave Shady Characters their first mark in the loss column this season.

Shady Characters started the second half of the 2022 how they ended the first half; Dylan led off the game with a solo homer, and his squad led 1-0. The Guac Boys starter, Brum, then retired Mike and Tom to end the inning.

The Guac Boys bounced back in the bottom of the second. Anthony led off with a single, and he moved from first to third when Jude followed with a single. Shady Characters starter, Tom, got Brum to ground out for the first out of the inning, but Anthony scored on the play, tying the game at 1-1. Alec then singled, scoring Jude, and the Guac Boys led 2-1. Anthony followed with his second single of the inning, but Tom avoided further damage, retiring Jude to strand two runners, ending the inning.

Jason led off the top of the second with a double, and he moved to third when Lucas followed with a single. Shady Characters had two runners in scoring position with no outs, but Brum got out of the jam. He retired Nate and Dylan, stranding both runners, and the Guac Boys maintained a 2-1 lead.

Tom rolled through the bottom of the second, retiring Brum and Alec in order. 

Brum matched him in the top of the third, sending Mike and Tom down consecutively. 

Brum, who pitched the complete game win, and Alec, who went 3-for-4, converge on a fly ball in shallow right field.

Tom once again cruised in the bottom of the third, retiring Anthony and Jude, and Shady Characters continued to trail by a run.

Jason led off the top of the fourth with a solo shot to deep right, tying the game at 2-2. Two batters later, Nate hit a one-out single, and Dylan followed with his second bomb of the game, this one a two-run shot that put Shady Characters in front 4-2. Mike followed with a double, but Brum avoided a disastrous inning, retiring Tom to strand the runner at second, ending the inning.

Down two runs, the Guac Boys immediately responded in the bottom of the fourth. Alec doubled with one out, and he scored from second when Anthony followed with an RBI single, cutting the deficit to 4-3. Jude followed with a two-run shot, putting the Guac Boys in front 5-4. Tom then retired Brum to end the inning, and the Guac Boys had reclaimed a one-run lead.

Anthony went 3-for-5 with three singles, a run scored, and an RBI in the Guac Boys win.

Jason singled to start the top of the fifth, and Lucas followed with a single, putting runners on first and third with no outs. Once again, Brum stranded Shady Characters runners. He got Nate to fly out, and Jason was called out trying to tag and score on the play, ending the inning. 

Alec singled to start the bottom of the fifth, but Tom stranded him, retiring Anthony and Jude.

For the first time in the 2022 season, Shady Characters started the final inning of a game trailing on the scoreboard. Brum stayed on the mound to close things out, and he did so efficiently. He retired the top of the order, Dylan and Mike, to end the inning and the game, giving the Guac Boys a 5-4 win.

The win moved the Guac Boys to 5-6 on the season, and the loss dropped Shady Characters to 10-1.

Nate of Shady Characters Named Pabst Blue Ribbon Wiffler of the Week

The defending champs continued to dominate the Wiffler of the Week award in 2022, as their rookie Nate earned the honors with a big performance in week 5. Despite having single digit games under his belt, Nate has been an asset in the field and at the plate, and after piling up more hits and RBI, he was voted the Wiffler of the Week for week 5.

In a 5-1 win over the Guac Boys, Nate went 1-for-4 with a single.

In a 16-6 blowout win against Jack Shack, Nate went 4-for-5 with a double, a triple, two homers, three runs scored, and six RBI.

In total, Nate went 5-for-9 with a single, a double, a triple, two homers, three runs scored, and six RBI in week 5.

This is the first time Nate has been named Wiffler of the Week in his short wiffle career.

Cheap Goats Top Guac Boys 5-4 in Extra Innings in Last Game of First Half

Joe’s solo shot with one out in the bottom of the seventh extended the game for Cheap Goats, and he had one of the best games of his wiffle career, going 3-for-5 with two doubles and homer.

The last game of the first half of the 2022 was a tight one, as Miller hit an RBI walk-off double to drive in the winning run in a 5-4 win for Cheap Goats over the Guac Boys. Dinger pitched the complete game win, hit three singles, and scored the winning run, Joey and Joe also had three hits, and Miller had two doubles, including the game-winner. Brum went 4-for-6 with three solo homers in the Guac Boys loss, as the first half of the 2022 regular season came to a conclusion.

Dinger retired the first batter he faced, Anthony, in the top of the first. The next batter, Jude, hit a solo homer to right-center, putting the Guac Boys up 1-0. Dinger then retired Brum to end the inning.

Jude started for the Guac Boys, and he retired Miller and Joe in order in the bottom of the first. 

Dinger retired Alec and Anthony in order in the top of the second.

Jude escaped the jam, however, getting Miller to fly out to the mound, and he doubled up Christian on the play, ending the inning.

The Guac Boys took another lead in the top of the third. With one out, Brum launched a solo homer to center, making the score 2-1. Alec followed with a single, but Dinger stranded him, retiring Anthony to end the inning.

Brum went 4-for-6 with three solo homers in the Guac Boys loss.

Cheap Goats bounced back in the bottom of the third. Joe doubled, and when Joey grounded out to center for the first out, Joe scored from second, tying the score at 2-2. Christian then tripled, and Dinger drove him in with an RBI single, putting Cheap Goats ahead 3-2. Jude then retired Miller for the second out of the inning, stranding Dinger at first.

The Guac Boys continued the see-saw game in the top of the fourth. For the second consecutive inning, with one out, Brum hit a solo homer, and the game was tied at 3-3. Alec followed with a double, but Dinger once against stranded him, striking out Anthony to end the inning.

Jude rolled through the bottom of the fourth, retiring Joe and Joey in order.

Dinger matched him in the top of the fifth, sending Jude and Brum down consecutively. 

Dinger, who pitched the complete game win and scored the winning run for Cheap Goats, extends to catch a fly ball for an out.

Jude pitched his second consecutive perfect frame in the bottom of the fifth, retiring Christian and Dinger in order. 

Anthony singled with one out in the top of the sixth, but the Guac Boys couldn’t plate the go-ahead run. Dinger retired Jude to strand him, ending the inning.

Cheap Goats threatened in the bottom of the sixth, but Jude escaped a huge jam. Miller doubled to lead off the inning, and he moved to third when Joe followed with a double. With no outs, two runners in scoring position, and the winning run on third, the Guac Boys intentionally walked Joey to load the bases. The move seemed risky, but it paid off. Jude got both Christian and Dinger to fly out to the mound, stranding all three runners and sending the game to extra innings.

The Guac Boys immediately capitalized, as Brum led off the top of the seventh with his third solo shot of the game, and the homer put his squad in front 4-3. Anthony later singled with one out, but Dinger stranded him, retiring Jude to end the inning.

Jude retired Miller for the first out in the bottom of the seventh, and the Guac Boys were one out away from a victory. Joe came to the plate and launched a solo homer to left-center. The clutch blast tied the game at 4-4. Joey followed with a double, and the winning run was in scoring position. Jude once again escaped a jam, retiring Christian for the second out of the inning, and stranding Joey at second. 

One of the most unusual plays in EWL history occurred in the top of the eighth. Brum singled, and Alec followed with a single, putting two runners on with no outs. The next batter, Anthony, hit a fly ball between first and second base. The ball landed and bounced directly to the pitcher’s mound, catching both Brum and Alec in between bases for a double play, ending the inning.

The heartbreaking play for the Guac Boys carried over into the bottom of the eighth. Dinger led off with a single, and the next batter, Miller, hit an RBI double off the fence, scoring Dinger. The clutch hit won the game for Cheap Goats, giving them an unusual and dramatic 5-4 extra-innings victory.

The win moved Cheap Goats to 3-7, and the loss dropped the Guac Boys to 4-6.
