Thomas Leads Shady Characters with Six Extra-Base Hits in 16-6 Rout of Guac Boys

Thomas went 6-for-7 with three doubles, three homers, six runs scored, and six RBI as Shady Characters started the second half of the season with a 16-6 win over Guac Boys

Thomas continued his scorching hot rookie season going 6-for-7 with three doubles, three homers, six runs scored, and six RBI as Shady Characters beat Guac Boys 16-6. Tom had five hits and pitched a complete game win, and Nate and Lucas each contributed four hits as Shady Characters turned in a total team effort to start the second half of the 2024 season, pulling within a game of Guac Boys for first place in the season standings.

Tom started for Shady Characters and he allowed a leadoff double to Jan to start the game. Tone followed with a two-run homer, and Guac Boys immediately led 2-0. Tom retired Bohn and Form to end the inning, and Shady Characters trailed by two runs early.

Shady Characters responded in the bottom of the first. Tom singled, and he moved from first to third when Nate followed with a double. With no outs and two on, Thomas cleared the bases, and his three-run homer put Shady Characters in front 3-2. Two batters later Tom hit a one-out single, but Guac Boys starter, Bohn, retired Nate to strand the runner, ending the inning.

Tom retired Brum and Jan in order in the top of the second.

Thomas led off the bottom of the second with a double, and Lucas followed with a two-run homer, extending the Shady Characters lead to 5-2. Bohn retired Tom and Nate to end the inning, and Shady Characters led by three runs.

Bohn singled with one out in the top of the third and he moved from first to third when Form followed with a single. Guac Boys had runners on the corners with one out, but Tom escaped damage, retiring Brum to strand both runners, ending the inning.

Shady Characters continued to extend their lead in the bottom of the third. Thomas led off with his second homer of the game, a solo shot that made the score 6-2. Two batters later Tom tripled, and Nate drove him in with an RBI single that put Shady Characters in front 7-2. Thomas then homered for the second time in the inning and third time in the game, and his two-run shot gave Shady Characters a 9-2 lead. Bohn retired Lucas to end the inning, and Shady Characters had opened up a seven run lead.

Jan led off the top of the fourth with a solo homer, cutting the score to 9-3. Tone tripled, and when Bohn grounded out for the first out of the inning, he scored, and Shady Characters led 9-4. Form hit a one-out double, but Tom stranded him, retiring Brum to end the inning.

Guac Boys turned to their bullpen in the bottom of the fourth, bringing Jan to the mound. The first batter he faced, Tom, hit a double, and he moved to third when Nate singled. Two batters later, with runners on the corners and one out, Lucas singled, scoring both runners and extending the Shady Characters lead to 11-4. Jan retired Tom to strand Lucas at first, and Guac Boys were down seven runs.

Tom rolled through the top of the fifth, retiring Jan and striking out Tone.

Shady Characters put the game out of reach in the bottom of the fifth. Nate led off the inning with a solo homer, and Guac Boys trailed 12-4. Thomas doubled, and Lucas followed with his second two-run homer of the game, making the score 14-4. Tom singled, and after Jan struck out Nate, Thomas doubled, putting runners on second and third with one out. Lucas doubled, clearing the bases and making the score 16-4, but Lucas was caught out trying to extend the hit to a triple, ending the inning.

Guac Boys were down twelve runs heading into the sixth. Bohn singled to start the inning, and Form followed with a two-run homer that cut the score to 16-6. Brum singled, but the rally would end there. Tom retired Jan and Tone to end the inning, giving Shady Characters a 16-6 win.

The win moved Shady Characters to 7-4 on the season, and the loss dropped Guac Boys to 8-3.

Jack Shack went up 6-0 in the first inning and held off several Cheap Goats rallies to win 11-7, continuing their midseason climb up the 2024 standings. Jon M and Jon D had five hits each and Josh had four extra-base hits as Jack Shack overcame Joey hitting for the cycle to earn the victory.

Dinger started on the mound for Cheap Goats, and he was hit early in the top of the first. Josh led off the game with a homer, giving Jack Shack a 1-0 lead. Jon M singled, and he moved from first to third when Jon D singled. Two batters later, Josh hit a one-out triple, clearing the bases and making the score 3-0. Jon M then tripled, scoring Josh, and the lead was 4-0. Jon D followed with a two-run homer, and Jack Shack led 6-0. Jacob tripled, but Dinger stranded him, retiring Josh to end the inning.

Jon M took the mound for Jack Shack, and he allowed singles to Joey and Courtlen to start the bottom of the second. Cheap Goats couldn’t capitalize, however, as Jon retired Christian and Dinger to strand both runners, ending the inning.

Joey hit a one-out double in the bottom of the second, and he moved to third when Courlten singled. Christian then singled, scoring Joey, and Cheap Goats were on the board. Cheap Goats had runners on the corners with one out, but Jon M avoided further damage, retiring Dinger to strand two runners, ending the inning with the score 6-1.

Dinger got Jacob to ground out to right for the first out of the inning, but Jon M scored on the play, putting Jack Shack ahead 10-5. Josh then doubled, scoring Jon D from second, and the Jack Shack lead was 11-5. Dinger retired Jon M to strand Josh at second, and Jack Shack had taken a six-run lead.

Jon M rolled through the bottom of the fifth, retiring Dinger and Kevin in order.

Dinger matched him in the top of the sixth, sending Jon D and Jacob down consecutively, and Cheap Goats were down six runs heading into the bottom of the sixth.

Joey led off the bottom of the sixth with a triple, and Courtlen followed with a single, putting runners on the corner.s Christian then singled, scoring Joey, and Cheap Goats were down 11-6. Dinger then singled, scoring Courtlen, and the lead was cut to 11-7. Cheap Goats had two runners on and no outs, and it looked as if they’d rally. Jon M buckled down, however, retiring Kevin and Joey to strand both runners, ending the inning, and giving Jack Shack an 11-7 victory.

The win moved Jack Shack to 4-7 on the year, and the loss dropped Cheap Goats to 3-8.
