Dentists Blitz Pumice! 11-3 for Fourth Consecutive Win

Ron went 3-6 with a HR and a double, while pitching a complete game in the Dentists 11-3 win

Mike Marr set the pace offensively for the Dentists as they scored 11 runs in an easy win over Pumice on Slow!

Brad, having returned from his honeymoon, started on the mound for Pumice! who did not have their ace, Gaurav, in week 9. Braydn led off the top of the first with a single and moved to third when Ron followed with a double. Chris stepped to the plate with two runners in scoring position and no outs, and promptly delivered a single driving in both runs to put the Dentists up 2-0 early. Brad escaped further damage though, by getting the next batter Spads to ground into a double play, ending the inning.

Ron started on the mound for 4 out of 5 Dentists and got John to lead off the bottom of the first by flying out to the mound. Luke followed with a one-out double, but was stranded at second when Josh grounded out to left field for the second out of the inning.

Brad rebounded on the mound in the second by getting Braydn to ground out to left, and then struckout Ron to end the second.

Brad couldn’t help himself out at the plate in the bottom half of the inning though, as he grounded out for the first out. John singled, but Ron ended the inning by getting Luke to fly out to the mound.

The Dentists got back to work in the top of the third, starting with Marr, who was inserted into the lineup and immediately hit a solo homer to make the score 3-0. Spads followed with a single, and after a Braydn single there were runners on first and second with no outs. Ron grounded out for the first out of the inning, but put two runners in scoring position for Marr, who doubled and drove in both runs, pushing the score to 5-0. Marr was stranded at second when Spads ended the inning with a groundout, but the Dentists lead was at five runs.

Josh singled to lead off the bottom of the third, and Pumice! finally got on the board when Brad crushed one of the deepest bombs in league history, a two-run homer cutting the deficit to 5-2. John followed with a home run, and the back-to-back home runs pulled Pumice! within two runs. Ron settled down after the brief offensive burst, getting Luke to ground out and striking out Josh to end the third.

Up two runs, the Dentists continued to rack up the scoreboard. Braydn grounded out to for the first out in the top of the fourth, but Ron and Marr hit back-to-back jacks, pushing their lead to 7-3. Spads grounded out for the second out of the inning, and Pumice! headed to the bottom of the fourth down four runs.

Pumice! couldn’t muster any offense, however, as Brad and John were retired in order.

Brad held the deficit at four runs in the top of the fifth, as Braydn and Ron were sent down without reaching base.

Ron went back to work at the mound, retiring Luke and Josh in order in the bottom of the fifth, his fifth and sixth consecutively retired batters.

With the score 7-3 heading into the top of the sixth, the Dentists put the game out of reach. Marr led off the inning by flying out to the mound, but Chris doubled with one out, and scored on a Braydn single to make the score 8-3. Ron followed with a single, putting runners at first and second with one out. Marr stepped to the plate and hit a three-run blast, his third of the game, driving in his seventh run of the game. The homer pushed the Dentists lead to 11-3. Chris flew out to end the top of the sixth, and the damage had been done.

Ron stayed on the mound to close out the game, and got Brad to fly out to the mound for the first out of the inning. John singled to keep hope alive, but Luke grounded out for the second out of the inning, ending the game, and giving the Dentists their fourth straight win.

Chris Scatters Two Hits in 6-1 Victory Over Pumice on Slow!

The Dentists celebrate at home after a Marr solo homer in a 6-1 win over Pumice on Slow!

Pumice on Slow! managed only two hits, not scoring until their final at-bat, as 4 out of 5 Dentists cruised to a 6-1 win.

Chris, who has been mowing through EWL lineups in 2011, started on the mound for the Dentists and picked up where he left off in week 7. He struck out John to start the game, the retired Gaurav to end the first.

John, who has had two prior relief appearances for Pumice!, made his first career start against the Dentists in week 8. He retired Ron and Chris in order in the bottom of the first, and the score was 0-0 through one inning.

Chris kept his momentum, retiring Mo Vaughn and John in the second.

John got Spads to fly out to start the inning, but the Dentists struck first in the bottom of the second, as Marr hit a one out solo homer, making the score 1-0. Ron singled with out out, but was stranded at first when Chris grounded out to end the inning.

Gaurav and Mo Vaughn each grounded out in the top of the third, and Chris was perfect through three innings.

The Dentists went to work in the bottom of the third, as Spads led off the inning with a single. He moved to second when Marr followed with a single of his own. With no outs and two runners on, Ron grounded out to center field, but Spads scored from second on the play extending the score to 2-0. Marr advanced to second, but was stranded in scoring position when Chris grounded out to end the third.

Up two runs, Chris remained perfect in the top of the fourth, retiring John and Gaurav in order.

Spads led off the bottom of the fourth with a triple, and scored when Marr hit a single, making the score 3-0. Marr advanced to second on a Ron groundout, but couldn’t advance further, as John retired Chris to end the fourth.

Chris retired Vaughn to start the fifth, but John broke up the perfect game attempt by hitting a single with one out. Chris tied the record for carrying a perfect game furthest into a game, at 4.5 innings. The hit ruined the no-hitter, but Chris retired Gaurav to end the inning and maintain the shutout through five innings.

Spads started the bottom of the fifth with a double and was a homer away from the cycle. Marr grounded out for the first out of the inning, but Spads scored from second on the play, making the score 4-0. With one out, Ron singled, and scored when Chris followed with a two-run bomb, extending the Dentists’ lead to 6-0. Approaching the cycle, Spads came to the plate needing a homer, but struck out to end the inning.

Up six runs, Chris gave up a solo homer to Vaughn to lead off the top of the sixth, making the score 6-1 and foiling his shutout attempt. But he retired John and Gaurav in order to end the game, moving to 6-0 on the mound for the year.

Dentists Manage Only 1 Hit, Get Improbable 1-0 Win Over Fish Sticks

Ron moved to 3-5 on the mound for the 2011 season with a 2-hit shutout of the Fish Sticks

Dinger carried a perfect game into the fifth inning and yielded only one hit to the Dentists, but the Sticks lost 1-0 as Ron shutout the Gay Fish giving up only two hits in the best pitchers’ duel in league history.

Both Ron and Dinger retired the first six batters they faced in order, as both pitchers were perfect through three innings.

Blose broke up Ron’s perfect game when he led off the top of the fourth inning with a single. But Ron retired Vassallo and Dinger in order as both grounded out to Chris in left field, as the score remained 0-0.

Dinger continued his perfect game in the bottom of the fourth, retiring Spads and Marr in order, his eighth consecutive retired batter.

Joey and Blose each flew out in the top of the fifth, and Ron maintained his shutout through five innings.

Dinger retired his ninth consecutive batter, Ron, to lead off the fifth, was perfect through four and a half innings. The next batter changed the game, however, as Chris ended the perfect game bid by blasting a solo home run to left-center, putting the Dentists up 1-0. Spads flew out to center to end the fifth, and the Dentists were up a run with only one hit.

Down to their last at-bat, Vassallo doubled to lead off the top of the sixth for the Sticks. With the tying runner on second in scoring position, Dinger grounded out to left, and Vassallo couldn’t advance to third. The next batter, Joey, also grounded out to left, as Ron recorded the second out of the inning and secured an unlikely 1-0 victory for the Dentists.

Chris Pitches Gem and Hits Bomb as Dentists Hang On to Beat Caucasians 2-1

Morrison took the loss against the Dentists despite giving up only two runs

Chris moved to 5-0 as a starter on the season, as he shut down the Caucasian offense, helped his own cause with a homer, and led the Dentists to a 2-1 win.

Chris retired Guthrie to start the game, but got into a jam when he gave up consecutive singles to Morrison and Blauser, putting runners at first and third with one out. But he got out of the jam unscathed, getting Guthrie to fly out to left for the second out of the inning.

Morrison was on the mound for the Caucasians, and he gave up a single to Ron to start the bottom of the first. Chris followed by grounding out to left, but moved Ron to second. Mike followed with a single, putting runners on the corners for Ron with one out. But like Chris in the top half of the first, Guthrie got out of the jam without yielding a run, by getting Ron to fly out to the mound.

Chris retired Morrison and Blauser in order in the top of the second, and with the game scoreless, he led off the bottom of the second with a solo homer, his second of the day, to put the Dentists up 1-0. After a Mike single, Ron flew out for the first out of the inning. Mike advanced to third when Chris singled for his second hit of the inning, but Morrison stranded the runners at the corners when Mike grounded out to left field for the second out of the inning.

After two the score was 1-0, and Chris retired Guthrie and Morrison in order in the top of the third. Morrison matched him, retiring Ron and Chris who both flew out to the mound in the bottom of the third.

Chris mowed through Blauser and Guthrie in the top of the fourth to make seven straight retired batters. But Morrison again did the same, sending down Ron and Chris in the bottom to keep the Caucasian’s deficit at one run.

Morrison singled to lead off the top of the fifth, but didn’t move beyond first base, as Blauser and Guthrie were retired in order. Morrison then retired Chris to start the bottom of the fifth. The next batter, Mike, reached first safely when a fly ball was misplayed by the Caucasian outfield. Mike advanced to second and then third on a series of throwing errors, and after the ball escaped past Morrison at the mound, Mike raced home safely for an inside-the-park home run, moving the score to 2-0. Morrison retired Ron for the second out of the inning, and after five innings the Caucasians were down two runs.

Down to their final at-bat, Morrison grounded out to left to start the top of the sixth. With one out, Blauser hit a solo home run off Chris, cutting the score to 2-1. Guthrie followed with a single, and the tying run was on first. But Morrison was unable to force extra innings, as he grounded out to left field, ending the game, and giving the Dentists a 2-1 win.

Fish Sticks Rally in Fifth Inning to Stun 4 out of 5 Dentists 4-2

Joey of Fish Sticks gave up two runs on five hits in a 4-2 win

Down 1-0, the Fish Sticks scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and held on to beat 4 out of 5 Dentists 4-2, snapping their five game win streak.

The Fish Sticks sent Joey to the mound to square off against Ron of the Dentists in what would be a pitcher’s duel. Ron led off the game with a single for the Dentists, but didn’t advance further as Chris and Mike each grounded out to end the top of the first. Ron retired Dinger to start the bottom of the first, and following a Joey single, Blose grounded out to center field to end the inning.

Joey retired Geoff and Ron in the top of the second, and Ron quickly retired Vassallo and Dinger in the bottom half of the inning to keep the game scoreless.

With the score 0-0, Chris led off the top of the third with a solo home run, putting the Dentists ahead by a run. Following a Mike groundout to center, Geoff singled with one out. He was stranded at first, however, as Ron flew out to the pitchers mound to end the threat.

Joey was retired to start the bottom of the third, and Blose followed with a one out single. But Ron stranded him there, as Vassallo grounded out to left field for the second out of the inning.

Chris singled to start the top of the fourth, his second hit of the game, but Mike and Geoff each flew out to center field, stranding him at first base.

Down 1-0, Dinger flew out to left to start the bottom of the third, and Joey followed with a one-out single. The Sticks couldn’t tie the game though, as Blose grounded out to end the fourth.

Joey retired Ron and Chris in order in the top of the fifth as both grounded out. Vassallo got his first hit of the game, a single, to lead off the bottom of the fifth. He advanced to second when Dinger followed with a single of his own. A costly throwing error by the Dentists allowed Vassallo to move to third, a play which proved crucial. With no outs, Joey grounded out to left field, but Vassallo scored on the play, tying the game at one. With one out and Dinger on second, Blose crushed a two-run bomb to right field, putting the Sticks ahead 3-1, their first lead of the game. Vassallo stepped to the plate and hit a deep home run to left field for back-to-back homers, pushing the Gay Fish lead to 4-1. Dinger flew out to right field to end the fifth, but the Fish Sticks secured a three run lead heading into the sixth.

The Sticks made a call to the bullpen in the sixth, bringing in their closer, Blose. Blose got Mike to ground out to center field for the first out of the inning. With one out, Geoff connected on an inside pitch for a solo homer, cutting the deficit to 4-2. But Blose wasn’t rattled, as he got Ron to fly out to center to end the game, notching his second save in as many opportunities.
