Loss Mitigation Powers Past Porkswords, Cruise to 18-6 Win

Bob’s bat came alive against the Porkswords, as he hit three homers, and registered seven total hits and eight RBI, in Loss Mitigation’s win

Loss Mitigation, led by Bob, who had seven hits and three homers, pulled to .500 on the season after rolling to an 18-6 win over the Porkswords in a game that was finished in week 3 after being postponed due to darkness in week 2. Loss Mitigation led 10-4 when the game was postponed, and they added eight more runs over the final three innings to seal the victory.

Nate took the mound for Loss Mitigation, and he fell behind early when Josh led off the game with a solo homer, making the score 1-0. Nate retired the next two batters, and his offense would give him some run support in the bottom of the first.

Dustin started for the Porkswords, and he was hit hard early. Bob led off the game with a double, and he managed to score from second on Mike’s sacrifice fly, tying the game at 1-1. Nate then doubled, and he scored on a Norris RBI double that put Loss Mitigation ahead 2-1. Bob followed with a two-run homer, and Loss Mitigation led 4-1. Mike also homered, and the back-to-back homers gave Loss Mitigation a 5-1 lead. Dustin finally escaped the inning by striking out Nate, and the Porkswords trailed by four runs.

Nate retired the side in order in the top of the second, and Dustin matched him in the bottom half of the inning.

Nate connects on one of his four hits in the game. He finished with two doubles, four RBI, and also earned the complete game win on the mound.

The Porkswords rallied in the top of the third, cutting into the deficit. Josh led off the inning with his second homer of the game, making the score 5-2. Dustin then tripled, and he scored when Miller grounded out for the first out of the inning. John then homered, and the Porkswords had cut the score to 5-4. Nate retired Steve, ending the inning with a one-run lead.

Loss Mitigation immediately made up for the runs, taking another commanding lead in the bottom of the third. Norris doubled with one out, and Bob drove him in with his second two-run blast of the game, putting Loss Mitigation ahead 7-4. Mike then tripled, and Nate drove him in with an RBI double that extended the lead to 8-4. Norris hit an RBI single, scoring Nate from second, and the score was 9-4. Bob drove in another run, and his RBI single scored Norris from first to make the score 10-4. Mike followed with a double, putting runners on second and third, but Dustin escaped the inning, retiring Nate to strand both runners, and the Porkswords trailed by six.

At this point, the game was called due to darkness, and the game was resumed in week 3. Steve and Dustin were out for week 3, and Adam R made his season debut with the Porkswords.

When action picked up in the top of the fourth, the Porkswords once again cut into the Loss Mitigation lead. Josh led off the inning with a single, and Miller drove him in with a two-run homer, making the score 10-6. John followed with a double, and he moved to third on Adam’s single, putting two runners in scoring position with no outs. Nate, who remained on the mound after the game was resumed, managed to escape further damage, retiring Josh and Miller to strand both runners. Nate had ended the rally, and Loss Mitigation led by four.

Norris crosses home plate for one of the six runs he scored in the game. He had a career day, going 7-for-8 with four singles, two doubles, a homer, and four RBI.

Loss Mitigation would pull away in the bottom of the fourth. Norris led off the inning with a single, and Bob followed with his third two-run homer of the game, putting Loss Mitigation ahead 12-6. Mike then doubled, and he scored on Nate’s RBI single that extended the lead to 13-6. Norris singled to put runners on the corners, and Bob drove in Nate with an RBI single that made the score 14-6. Two batters later, Nate cleared the bases with a one-out RBI single, and Loss Mitigation led 16-6. Norris then singled to once again put runners on the corners, but John, who had taken the mound after the delay, retired Bob to strand two runners and end the inning.

Nate allowed a one-out triple to Adam in the top of the fifth, but escaped the inning unscathed, retiring Josh to strand the runner and end the inning.

Loss Mitigation added to additional insurance runs off Miller, who relieved John in the bottom of the fifth. Mike doubled to lead off, and two batters later, Norris hit a two-run homer, making the score 18-6.

The Porkswords barely threatened in the top of the sixth. John singled with one out, but Nate ended things there, retiring Adam to strand the runner, ending the inning and the game.

The win moved Loss Mitigation to 2-2 on the season, and the loss dropped the Porkswords to 1-3.

Shady Characters Rally Late to Top Porkswords 7-6 and Remain Undefeated

Erich was once again electric at the plate, going 4-for-5 with four extra-base hits, and he also scored the winning run in Shady Characters victory over the Porkswords

After trailing 6-2 midway through their week two matchup with the Porkswords, Shady Characters scored five unanswered runs over the final three innings, punctuated by Tom W’s game-winning RBI double in the sixth, to win 7-6 and move to 3-0 on the season. 2017 EWL Wiffler of the Year, Erich, scored the game-winning run and continued to dominate, going 4-for-5 with two doubles, two home runs, and five RBI to lead Shady Characters. Tom K pitched the complete game win, becoming the first EWL pitcher with multiple wins in 2018.

Following what was likely the worst outing of his EWL career, Miller took the mound for the Porkswords in his second start of the young season, and he fell behind early. Tom W led off the game with a double, and two batters later, Dylan singled to put runners on the corners with one out. Erich cleared the bases with an RBI double, and Shady Characters led 2-0. Miller then retired Tom W to end the inning.

The Porkswords bounced right back in the bottom of the first, tying the game. Josh started the inning with a double, and two batters later, Dustin crushed a two-run blast to left, and the score was 2-2.

Miller settled down on the mound in the top of the second, and after Dylan singled with one out, Erich was retired to strand the runner and end the inning. He would get run support in the bottom half of the second.

John reached base safely in his third consecutive at-bat to start his EWL career, hitting a triple to start the inning. Two batters later, Steve drove him in with an RBI double that put the Porkswords ahead 3-2. Dustin followed with an RBI single to score Steve, and the score was 4-2. Miller then doubled to score Dustin, and John collected another hit, an RBI single that scored Miller to push the score to 6-2. Tom K finally escaped the inning, retiring Josh for the second out.

Tom W led off the top of the third with a single, but Shady Characters couldn’t rally, as Miller retired the next two batters to strand the runner and end the inning. Tom K matched him in the bottom of the third, and the score remained 6-2.

Shady Characters started their rally in the top of the fourth, as their bats came alive. Erich led off the inning with a double, and Tom W followed with an RBI single. Tom was caught in between first and second on the play, recording the first out, but the deficit was cut to 6-3. Tom K and Dylan each singled, and Erich once again cleared the bases with a three-run blast to right that tied the game at 6-6. Miller then retired Tom W to end the inning, but the four run lead had been blown and the game was tied.

Miller started the bottom of the fourth with a double, but the Porkswords couldn’t plate him, as Tom K retired John and Josh to strand the runner and end the inning.

Tom K moved to 2-0 on the season, pitching the complete game victory for Shady Characters

Shady Characters went down in order in the top of the fifth, as did the Porkswords, and the game was tied at 6-6 entering the final inning.

Erich doubled for the third time in the game to start the top of the sixth, and Shady Characters pulled back ahead when Tom hit an RBI double. The hit scored Erich and pushed the score to 7-6. Miller avoided further damage, retiring Tom K and Dylan to strand Tom W at third, and the Porkswords trailed by a run.

Miller led off the bottom of the sixth with a single, putting the tying run on base. John then singled, but Miller was forced out at second for the first out of the inning. Josh was at the plate as the winning run, with John, the tying run, on first. But Tom K cracked down, getting Josh to ground out to right for the second out of the inning, ending the game and giving Shady Characters a 7-6 come-from-behind win.

The win moved Shady Characters to 3-0 on the season, and the loss dropped the Porkswords to 1-2.

Porkswords Stun Loss Mitigation 9-8 with Walk-Off Win to Conclude Postponed Game

In only his second career at-bat, John hit his first home run in the EWL, a walk-over solo shot that gave the Porkswords a stunning 7-6 win over Loss Mitigation.

Loss Mitigation led 5-3 when their week one game with the Porkswords was resumed, and they had taken an 8-4 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth inning before the Porkswords mounted a dramatic and stunning rally. The Porkswords scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth, culminating in John’s walk-off solo homer, to win 9-8 and send Loss Mitigation to 0-2 on the season. Every Porksword reached base or drove in a run during the rally, and the first walk-off win of the 2018 EWL season moved the Porkswords to 1-1 in the standings.

Dustin took the mound for the Porkswords when the game started in week one, and he fell behind early. Bob led off the game with a solo homer, putting Loss Mitigation ahead 1-0. Two batters later Nate doubled with one out, but Dustin stranded the runner, retiring Norris to end the inning.

Nate started for Loss Mitigation, and after giving up a lead off single to Josh, he retired the side, and the score remained 1-0.

Mike makes yet another incredible one-handed catch for Loss Mitigation, as his teammates watch in awe.

Mike continued to swing a hot bat for Loss Mitigation, and in the top of the second, his one-out solo homer extended the score to 2-0. Nate retired the Porkswords in order in the bottom of the second.

Loss Mitigation added several insurance runs in the top of the third. Norris led off the inning with a triple, and Bob drove him in with an RBI double that made the score 3-0. Mike then doubled, putting runners on second and third with no outs. Dustin got Nate to ground out to left for the first out of the inning, but Bob scored on the play, extending the Loss Mitigation lead to 4-0. Mike moved to third on the play, but Dustin stranded him, retiring Norris for the second out of the inning.

Nate continued to roll in the bottom of the third, and Loss Mitigation led by four runs through three innings.

Mike kept punishing the Porkswords in the top of the fourth, hitting another one-out solo homer, making the score 5-0.

Down five, the Porkswords cut into the Loss Mitigation lead in the bottom of the fourth. With one out, Josh hit a solo homer, putting the Porkswords on the board at 5-1. Dustin followed with a homer, making the score 5-2. When Miller also homered, the Porkswords’ back-to-back-to-back homers had cut the deficit to 5-3. Nate finally recorded the second out of the inning, and the game was postponed due to darkness with the score 5-3.

The game was resumed in week 2, with Loss Mitigation returning the same lineup, and the Porkswords inserting Steve and John into their lineup, each making their 2018 EWL debuts. Norris led off the top of the fifth with a single, but Dustin stranded him, and the score remained 5-3.

Josh went 4-for-5 for the Porkswords, with two singles, a double, a homer, and three runs scored.

Two batters later, Bob doubled, and Mike followed with his third homer in the contest, a two-run bomb to left that extended the Loss Mitigation lead to 8-4. Dustin retired Nate to end the inning, and the Porkswords trailed by four runs heading into their final at-bat.

John, making his first career EWL appearance, doubled in his first at-bat, and he moved to third when Josh followed with a single. With no outs and two runners in scoring position, Dustin singled, scoring John and cutting the score to 8-5. Miller came to the plate as the tying run, and he hit an RBI double to score Josh, making the score 8-6. Steve then came to bat as the tying run, with runners on the corners. He grounded out to deep right-center for the first out of the inning, but both runners were able to score on the play. The two-RBI groundout tied the game at 8-8, and the Porkswords had drawn even with Loss Mitigation. Norris remained on the mound, and John came to the plate for his second career at-bat. He looked calm and collected, and he raked a solo homer to deep left-center, ending the game. The walk-off homer was the first ever by an EWL rookie, particularly a rookie in their first career game. The Porkswords had rallied from four runs down to score five in the bottom of the sixth, beating Loss Mitigation in an epic week one (and carry over to week two) game.

The win moved the Porkswords to 1-1 on the season, and the loss dropped Loss Mitigation to 0-2.

Christian Opens Season with Two-Hitter, Cheap Goats Stampede Porkswords 10-2

Christian allowed only two hits in a complete game win, and also went 3-for-4 with three doubles, an RBI, and two runs scored.

All five Cheap Goats contributed multiple hits, and Christian allowed only two to the Porkswords, as the Goats cruised to a 10-2 win in their 2018 season opener. Joey had three extra-base hits, Goats rookie Andrew homered in his first career at-bat, and Christian provided his own run support with three doubles, as the Porkswords fell behind early and struggled on offense and defense throughout the game.

Christian retired the side in order in the top of the first, and 2017 EWL Pitch King, Miller, making his first start with the new Porkswords franchise, matched him, retiring the Goats in order in the bottom of the first.

Andrew homered in his first career at-bat and later hit a single a triple, scoring two runs and driving in two, to help lead Cheap Goats to a season opening victory.

Christian continued to roll in the top of the second, and he would get all the run support he needed in the bottom half of the inning. Andrew, making his EWL debut, led off the bottom of the second with a solo homer, making the score 1-0. Christian followed with a double, and two batters later, Jordan hit a one-out single, scoring Christian to make the score 2-0. Joey then tripled, scoring Jordan, and the score was 3-0. Andrew followed with a triple, scoring Joey to push the score to 4-0, and Christian then doubled for the second time in the inning, making the score 5-0. Dinger followed with a single, but Christian was caught out trying to score from second, ending the inning.

Joey led Cheap Goats on offense, going 3-for-5 with a double, a triple, a home run, two runs scored, and three RBI.

The Porkswords continued to struggle in the top of the third, as Christian retired Josh and Dustin in order. Miller bounced back in the bottom of the third, retiring Jordan and Joey consecutively.

Christian retired the side in the top of the fourth, making him perfect through four, and he got even more run support in the bottom of the fourth. Christian doubled with one out, and he scored from second on a Dinger RBI single that made the score 6-0. Jordan followed with a double, scoring Dinger from first, and the score was 7-0. Joey then hit a two-run homer to left-center, and Cheap Goats led 9-0. Andrew followed with a single, but when the next batter, Christian, put the ball in play, it hit Andrew while he was in between first and second to end the inning.

Down nine runs, the Porkswords would get on the board in the top of the fifth. Josh led off the inning with a solo homer, ending Christian’s perfect game bid and making the score 1-0. Two batters later, Miller homered, and the Porkswords trailed 9-2.

Cheap Goats would add one more run in the bottom of the fifth when Jordan hit a one-out solo homer to left, extending the lead to 10-2. Joey followed with a double, but Miller retired Andrew to end the inning.
