Mike was two outs away from a perfect game, allowing only one hit in a 3-0 Questionable Outfit win over Eastbound & Dahn

Mike was two outs away from a perfect game, allowing only one hit in a 3-0 Questionable Outfit win over Eastbound & Dahn

Mike retired the first ten batters that he faced in Questionable Outfit’s week 4 matchup against Eastbound & Dahn, and Helal’s single to lead off the top of the sixth was the only thing between a complete game shutout and a perfect game. He added two extra-base hits in the game, as Questionable Outfit won a surprisingly close game 3-0.

Christian started on the mound for Eastbound & Dahn, and the very first batter he faced, Bob, launched a high fly-ball to center field. After a series of fielding errors, Bob had made his way around the bases for an inside-the-park homer, and Questionable Outfit led 1-0. After retiring Tom for the first out of the inning, Christian gave up another high fly ball to Mike. In similar fashion, fielding errors led to Mike attempting to complete an inside-the-parker, but Eastbound relayed the ball to the mound before Mike crossed home, and the second out of the inning narrowly prevented another Questionable Outfit run.

Mike races around third in the top of the first, trying to complete an inside-the-park homer. Nate makes the relay through, which would be in time and prevent the run from scoring.

Mike pushed the perfect game bid ahead in the bottom of the fifth, retiring Christian and BK, and he was two outs away from history.

Tom started the top of the sixth with a double, and he would score from second on Mike’s deep groundout to center. Nate then came to the plate and his a line drive off the fence. Similar to earlier in the game, a series of fielding errors led to Nate attempting to round the bases, but he was caught in between third and home, ending the inning.

Down 3-0 and with only two outs remaining, Eastbound would try to rally and crash Mike’s no-hit party. The first batter, Kyle, hit a lazy fly ball down the first base line. The normally sure-handed Mike approached the ball, but he missed it, and the ball fell to the ground as Kyle crossed first base. The perfect game had been squashed, and Eastbound had their first base runner of the game. Despite losing a shot at history, Mike buckled down, retiring Nate and striking out Dustin, stranding the Eastbound runner and giving Questionable Outfit the 3-0 win.

The win moved Questionable to 6-1 on the season, and Eastbound dropped to 0-8 with the loss.
