Cookies & Cream stole a win from Eastbound & Dahn as Joey’s walk-off inside-the-park homer in the bottom of the sixth put them ahead

Cookies & Cream trailed 2-1 and were down to their final out when a throwing error led to Joey’s walk-off inside-the-park homer, which gave them a stunning 3-2 win over Eastbound & Dahn.

Back from a week off, Dinger started on the mound for Cookies & Cream and continued to pitch well, as he has all season. After giving up a one-out single to Hartley, he retired Ivan to end the top of the first.

Cookies & Cream took an early lead in the bottom of the first. With one out, Joey doubled, and scored when the next batter Blose, playing for the first time in 2013, singled. Joey raced home from second, putting Cookies & Cream up 1-0. The next batter, Vassallo, also singled, putting runners on the corners with one out. But Ivan, starting on the mound for Eastbound, retired Dinger to end the inning, stranding both runners.

Dinger rolled through the top of the second in order, and Ivan did the same, pitching a scoreless bottom of the second.

Eastbound continued to struggle at the plate in the top of the third, going hitless as the side was retired in order. Vassallo led off the bottom of the third with a single, but didn’t move past first, as Ivan retired Dinger and Joey to end the inning.

After cruising through the first three innings, Dinger found himself in trouble in the top of the fourth. Hartley led off the inning with a singled, and Ivan followed with another single, putting runners on first and second with no outs. Mark singled to right with the help of a fielding error, and Hartley raced home to tie the game at 1-1. Dinger retired Hartley for the first out of the inning, but the runners advanced, putting men on the corners with one out. Ivan roped a double, scoring a run and giving Eastbound & Dahn a 2-1 lead. Mark grounded out to center for the second out of the inning, but Eastbound had bounced back for a one-run lead.

Ivan held the lead in the bottom of the fourth. Vassallo singled with one out, but was stranded at first when Dinger grounded out to left for the second out of the inning.

Hartley singled to lead off the top of the fifth, but didn’t advance past first, as Dinger retired Ivan and Mark to end the inning. Ivan rolled through the bottom of the fifth, pitching a perfect frame.

Hartley led off the top of the sixth with a double, his fourth hit of the game, but Dinger was able to avoid further damage, retiring the next two batter to strand the runner at second.

Vassallo led off the bottom of the sixth with a single, his fourth hit in as many at-bats, and Cookies & Cream had the tying runner on base. Dinger grounded out to left for the first out of the inning, but advanced the tying runner into scoring position. Down to their final out, Joey hit the ball to deep left-center. Vassallo raced around to score to tie the game, and Joey raced around the bases to second. But Eastbound & Dahn made a critical throwing error, allowing Joey to continue around the bases all the way to home for an inside-the-park home run. The two-run homer put Cookies & Cream ahead 3-2 for the win, as Eastbound & Dahn lost in shocking fashion.

Questionable Outfit took an early lead against the Ham Slams and rode Mike’s arm and solid defense to an easy 5-1 win.

Josh started the game pitching for the Ham Slams, and after retiring Tom, the first batter, Reilly crushed a solo homer to deep left field, putting Questionable Outfit up 1-0 early.

Questionable Outfit sent Mike to the mound, and after giving up a single to the Ham Slams leadoff hitter, Anthony, his defense was able to turn a double play when Josh grounded out to the mound.

Mike would get all the run support he needed in the top of the second, when Questionable Outfit got out their bats. Bob led off the inning with a double and scored from second when Tom grounded out to deep left field. Up 2-0, Reilly and Mike each singled to put runners on first and second with one out. Bob stepped to the plate and blasted a three-run bomb to right field, giving Questionable Outfit a 5-0 lead. Josh retired Tom, the next batter, to end the inning, but the damage was done.

Mike continued to roll in the bottom of the second. Evan singled with one out, but Mike stranded him at first, getting Charlie to ground out to right.

Questionable Outfit nearly added to their lead in the top of the third, but were unable to capitalize on multiple base runners. After Reilly flew out to left to start the inning, Mike and Bob each singled, putting runners at the corners with one out. But Josh buckled down, getting Tom to fly out to center, stranding both runners.

The Ham Slams finally got on the board in the bottom of the third. Anthony led off the inning with a double, and blazed around the bases to score from second when Josh grounded out to Tom in left field. Mike retired the next batter, Steve, to end the inning with the score 5-1.

Reilly singled to lead off the top of the fourth, but Josh retired Mike and Bob in order to end the inning. Mike cruised through the bottom of the fourth, retiring the side in order.

Josh pitched a perfect top of the fifth, but the Ham Slams couldn’t cut into the deficit in the bottom half of the inning.

Mike singled to lead off the top of the sixth. Bob followed with a deep fly to left, but Steve caught the ball and doubled up Mike who had raced around the bases.

Down to their final at-bat, the Ham Slams looked to rally. Steve led off the inning with a single and moved to second on an Evan single, but Charlie grounded out directly to the mound, allowing Mike to tap the rubber and complete a double play to end the game.

The win moved Questionable Outfit above .500 to 4-3 on the season, while the loss dropped the Ham Slams to 3-4.

The Ham Slams only managed 5 hits in 10 innings, but the last hit was the most important, as Steve’s walk-off solo homer in the bottom of the tenth inning gave them a 3-2 win in an epic battle against Eastbound & Dahn.

The Ham Slams started Josh on the mound, and it looked as if he would be in trouble early. After retiring the game’s first batter, Ivan, he gave up singles to Hartley and Mark, putting runners at the corners with one out. But he was able to retire the next batter, Helal, stranding both runners and ending the inning.

Mark started for Eastbound & Dahn and cruised through the bottom of the first, retiring the side in order.

Josh got into a groove in the top of the second, retiring the side in order while striking out Ivan. Mark continued to roll in the bottom of the second, pitching a scoreless inning.

The stalemate continued in the top of the third, as Josh rolled through Eastbound & Dahn in order. Mark matched Josh with a perfect bottom of the third.

Trevar singled with one out in the top of the fourth, but was held at first as Josh stranded the runner to end the inning. Mark retired the side in order in the bottom of the fourth, and had a perfect game through four innings.

Josh cruised through the top of the fifth, and the score remained 0-0 through four and a half. But the scoreless tie would finally end in the bottom of the fifth. The first batter, Josh, helped himself out with a little run support, belting a solo homer to left-center, putting the Ham Slams up 1-0 and ending Mark’s bid for a no-hitter. The Ham Slams would only score one, as Mark retired the following two batters.

Eastbound & Dahn hadn’t had a base runner beyond first base since the first inning, but they bounced back in the top of the sixth. With one out and no one on, Trevar came to the plate as Eastbound & Dahn’s last hope. He crushed as solo bomb to left, tying the game at 1-1 and giving Eastbound life. Josh retired Ivan, ending the inning, and giving the Ham Slams a chance to win with a run in the bottom of the sixth.

Mark wouldn’t allow it, as he retired the Ham Slams in order in the bottom half of the inning, sending the game to extra innings. Josh returned to steady pitching, retiring the side in the top of the seventh.

Steve singled with one out in the bottom of the seventh, putting the winning run on first, but Mark struck out Charlie for the second out of the inning, pushing the game to the eighth.

Helal led off the top of the eighth by grounding out to left, but with one out, Trevar hit his second solo homer in as many at-bats, putting Eastbound & Dahn up 2-1. Ivan followed with a single and moved to third when Hartley doubled. Eastbound & Dahn had two runners in scoring position and looked as if they would blow the game open. But they were unable to capitalize and extend the lead, as Josh got Mark to ground out to center, stranding both runs.

Down 2-1 and in their final at-bat, the Ham Slams rallied. Josh led off the inning with a triple, putting the tying run on third. The next batter, Anthony, singled, scoring Josh and tying the game at 2-2. Anthony moved to third when Steve grounded out to right field, and with one out, the Ham Slams had the winning run on third base. But Mark held tight, retiring Charlie to end the inning, and the game would go on.

Both teams’ pitchers had reached their innings limit as each had pitched all 8 previous innings. The Ham Slams put Charlie on the mound, and he retired the side in order in the top of the ninth. Eastbound & Dahn turned to Hartley, and he did the same, retiring Josh and Anthony consecutively to send the game to the tenth inning.

Ivan led off the top of the tenth with a double, putting the lead run in scoring position. Ivan moved to third on a Hartley groundout to left, and with one-out, Eastbound & Dahn needed a base hit to take the lead. But Charlie buckled down, retiring Mark to end the inning with the score tied at 2-2.

The game had reached double-digit innings, but wouldn’t go further. Steve led off the bottom of the tenth and crushed a solo homer off Hartley, a walk-off blast that gave the Ham Slams a 3-2 win in the longest game of the 2013 season.

The win moved the Ham Slams to 3-3 on the year, while Eastbound & Dahn fell to 2-4.

After Joey and Bob battled it out on the mound for 8 innings, Questionable Outfit cracked Guthrie in the bottom of the ninth inning to outlast Cookies & Cream for a 3-2 victory.

Bob got off to a rough start for Questionable Outfit, as the first batter he faced, Morrison, blasted a solo homer to deep left-center, giving Cookies & Cream an early 1-0 lead. But Bob settled down, retiring the side to end the inning, keeping the damage at a single run.

With Dinger out for week 3, Joey made his first pitching appearance of the season. With one out he gave up a single to Reilly, but stranded him at first for a scoreless first inning.

Vassallo led off the top of the second with a double, but Cookies & Cream couldn’t cash in, as Bob retired Morrison and Guthrie to end the inning.

Joey continued to pitch well in the bottom of the second. After giving up a one-out single to Tom, he got Reilly to ground out to left for the second out of the inning.

Bob cruised through the top of the third, and provided his own run support in the bottom half of the inning. With one out, he crushed a solo homer to right, tying the game at 1-1.

Both pitchers were perfect in the top of the fourth, as batters struggled to make solid contact.

With the winning run in scoring position, Questionable Outfit was unable to capitalize, as Reilly grounded out to center, stranding the runner and sending the game to extra innings.

Questionable Outfit put Mike on the mound, as he had won their previous game. With one out, Joey singled, and the lead runner was on base for Cookies & Cream, but Vassallo flew out to center, ending the threat.

Cookies & Cream turned to their ace Guthrie, who had two innings of eligibility left. He wouldn’t get the chance to use them. Mike led off the inning with a double, and the winning run was on second with no outs. The next batter, Bob, grounded out to right for the first out of the inning. Mike raced around third, and looked as if he was going to try to score. Morrison, who fielded the ball in right, gunned the ball in to Guthrie on the mound in an attempt to retire the base runner Mike. But the ball sailed over Guthrie’s head, and Mike raced home, scoring the winning run. Questionable Outfit had outlasted Cookies & Cream, winning 3-2 in nine innings.

In a back and forth game, Questionable Outfit held off Eastbound & Dahn’s bottom-of-the-sixth rally to win a tightly contested game 7-6.

After pitching well in week 2, Ivan started on the mound for Eastbound & Dahn, but struggled with his command throughout the game. With one out in the top of the first, Ivan gave up a solo homer to Reilly, putting Questionable Outfit up 1-0.

His offense would help him out in the bottom of the first. Mike started for Questionable Outfit, and after retiring the first batter, gave up singles to Helal and Trevar. With two men on, Ivan doubled, scoring Helal and putting two runners in scoring position. Tim came to the plate and roped a single, scoring Trevar and Ivan and putting Eastbound & Dahn up 3-1. Mike stranded Tim at first to end the inning.

Questionable Outfit fired right back in the top of the second. Bob led off the inning with a solo homer, cutting the deficit to 3-2. Tom followed with a double, and after Reilly flew out to center, moved to third on a Mike single. With runners on the corners and one down, Bob singled, scoring Tom and tying the game at 3-3. Questionable Outfit had two runners on, but Ivan retired Tom to end the inning.

Mike retired the side in order in the bottom of the second. Mike and Bob each singled in the top of the third, but Ivan was able to get out of the jam without giving up a run, and the game remained tied.

With one out in the bottom of the third, Helal smacked a solo homer, putting Eastbound & Dahn back on top 4-3.

But once again, the lead wouldn’t last. Reilly led off the top of the fourth with a single, and Mike followed with a two-run blast, making the score 5-4. Bob followed with a single, but Ivan retired the next two batters to end the inning.

Eastbound & Dahn turned to a new pitcher, as Helal pitched a perfect frame in the top of the fifth, and Mike did the same in the bottom of the fifth, maintaining Questionable Outfit’s 5-4 lead.

Tom led off the top of the sixth with a solo homer, extending his team’s lead to 6-4. With one out, Mike hit his second homer of the game, providing his own run support and putting Questionable Outfit up 7-4.

Down three in the bottom of the sixth, Eastbound & Dahn started a rally. Ivan led off the inning with a single, and Mark followed with a deep two-run blast to right-center, cutting the score to 7-6. But Mike buckled down, retiring Tim and Helal in order to end the game, giving Questionable Outfit the win.
